Need Help Police Scanners

What's the difference between

Bearcat Trunktracker 2
Bearcat Trunktracker 3
Bearcat Trunktracker 4

Any help would be great. I'm just trying to find out which is the best one and the difference between each. They're top notch I know that.

Well there is no reason to have a scanner really.

Where I'm at only 2 channels (frequency on the scanner) are open and can be heard on a scanner, the others are (kypto) encrypted channels.

Unless you want to hear about domestic violence or someones info being read over the radio? If you are interested in anything other than that you're SOL unless you steal a cops radio and learn their 10 codes:shrug:

I'm pretty sure that narc units maintain radio silence from briefing to execution, so really I can't think of what you'd be able to do with one:confused:

I had a portable scanner when I was 17 at a friends house party.  We were worried about the neighbors calling the cops because one of them saw someone hitting a bowl in the back yard.  I listened intently to the scanner and heard that the police were headed to my friends address in response to a complaint.  It gave us just enough time to hide all illegals and move some people out before they arrived.  Nobody got arrested that night.  There is some use to them.  My dad got me into them since he always had one. 

Nowadays though, most, if not all of the police bands are encrypted.  I no longer have a scanner but the one I used to have no longer picked up and police or fire bands in my area.  Only thing it would pick up was cordless phone calls.

Who says you can't un-encrypt em? :crazy:

They're is a use to the later model of the
Bearcat Trunktracker 4 it has a trunktracker on it where it 'can' enlist on com but I have to find out more aboot it.

It is against federal law for anyone to sell a scanner that decrypts encrypted communications. The Uniden company and their Bearcat Trunktracker technology does not decrypt any communications.

Trunktracking means to track or scan certain groups of communication, nothing about trunktracking means decrypting communications.

suppose said chip doesn't decyrpt the communications but supplies you with a simple encryption key, or list of possible encryption keys
