Help with encryption passphrase

Hello all before I begin I did use the search function and wasnt able to find any information on what Im looking for. Anyways my problem is I forgot my pass phrase for encrypted messages so I went ahead and re did one and got a new pass phrase and private key. Well to make sure I did it right I sent my self a test encrypted message and when I went to decrypt it it said I had the wrong pass phrase, which is impossible since I put it on word and pasted it in to the original registration form and pasted it again when asked for it to open the message. Just to make sure I didnt mess up I re registered for a new pass phrase and private key with an incredibly simple pass phrase to make sure I wouldnt mess up and the same thing happened. Sorry for the long post, I was already stressed with finals and came home to open a message to have this happen. Any help would be great or if someone knows who I can talk to about this that would be awesome too.
