I have a plan. I own a business that builds and repairs stringed instruments. I plan on spending the next 2 years here, then relocating to New York City to open a school teaching guitar repair (any stringed instrument, really) with a friend of mine that is a retired fire captain and also an excellent repairman/luthier. I plan on spending 3 - 5 years in New York getting that off the ground, then move to the Gulf Coast to open the first satellite campus. Somewhere close to Gulf Shores, AL. That is what I will do and where I will be for my remaining days. It'll probably be another 3 - 5 years after moving to the Gulf Coast to  get the satellite campus established. So I guess in 8 - 12 years, I will be in the place I want to retire. I can't see myself ever quitting work. I love teaching and watching people learn. I am 30 years old now and plan to be in that position by 40.

Oh, and for those interested in starting classes in NYC, we will be able to take FAFSA candidates and by that I mean all scholorships, public and private, GI Bills, etc. It is a real trade certificate program that will launch in either the Fall of 2010 or Spring of 2011.

Plan B is that in case the school doesn't work out, keep repairing instruments. It pays $50k a year which is enough to raise a family and I can do that near any good sized city.

I will definetly retire from scientific research.  It's likely that I will do "consultant" work on the side and travel to different institutions during retirement and in the last years of working.
