Custom MycoBags

This weekend I plan on buying some empty Enviroment bags so that I can make my own myco-bags (cheaper then buying the presterilized ones).
Sooo, I got a few questions.
1. Can I just use the regular PF tek for the substrate?
2. How do I sterilize the substrate and the bags? Can they be pressure cooked? (I do own a presure cooker)
3. Any tip/hints on this project?
Thanks for your help!

Ok cool. Thanks for the info!
I'm ordering 10 myco bags, some empty syringes, and a EQ syring.
I have some vermiculite already and I plan on going to the store sometime tomarrow to get some brown rice flower so I can make my substrate.
I have a large foot locker that I plan on keeping them in. Average temp inside is around 78-80 degrees which is opt. for incubation from what I hear.
I was thinking of putting a aquarium heater in a jar of water inside the footlocker for extra heat/humidity. You think this would affect the lockers wooden interior?
After they are 100% colonized do they need to be out in the open somewhere to get some sort of light? I'm using a foot locker because it had a padlock on the front. Don't need my dad snooping around (I'm 19 btw, but still live with the rent, eh!).
Anyway I could leave them inside the locker durring fruiting?
This is my first grow. Thanks for any input!

honestly, if i were you. I would go and buy a millet based birdseed, like finch food. The more millet and less other seed the better. Simmer that in boiling water (pour it in once water is boiling) for 30-40. Spoon a cup or 2 into your bag, seal it up with an iron, pressure cook for 60 mins.
Better yields. Easier.

oops, forgot most important part. You have to drain the grain, after simmering, for at LEAST 20 minutes. You want ALL extra water OUT.

If you really want to make myco bags(dont understand why not just use jars?) dont use the original PF substrate. If you're going to go through the trouble of making bags put some other substrate in there!
Whatever you do good luck! Fd

heh thanks. Thats a picture of my oscar....uh oscar (i know i could have been more creative). He's about 6yrs old and is ugly as sin. But I lub my b0ng hittin ghetto fish.
Anywho, The myco bags in my case are actually less trouble then making using jars. Cause then i'd have to setup some sort of fruiting terrarium and such.
I simply dont have any room for something like that. Plus myco-bags are smaller then a terrarium and easer to hide. Hell, I could toss one by behind the bed if I wanted to.
Though thanks for all the help!

Millet works great! If you don't feel like ordering millet (may be more expensive due to shipping) try looking for a birdseed with a high millet content. Look at the ingredients on the bag. Millet should be the first item listed.

Actually their not to expensive but your right about shipping.
Would the other seeds pose any problems? Any experience using that kind?
I'll try looking at wal-mart. Thats about the only place I can think of around here that would have them. (without going way out of the way)

The seed that I use contains the following (and it works great!):- Millet Seed
- Oat Groats
- Canary Grass Seed
Good luck!
