Why do we have a problem with murder? Everybody dies after all. Once you're dead you don't care. And we're all just undifferentiated carbon atoms if you look close enough. But when you kill someone you deprive them of their future experiences, which we consider priceless. And thus murder is seen as the most serious crime you can commit.
Aborting a fetus, even one who is too young to be sentient, likewise deprives that individual of any future experiences he or she would go on to enjoy in life. That is why I consider it unethical. And the fact that it can all be avoided by exercising just the slightest bit of personal responsibility makes it even more repugnant to me.
But you are right that a child would be in bad shape having such shitty deadbeat parents, and that it why adoption is a good choice in this type of situation.
