Amanita Pantherina?

Hey! I keep finding these amanitas, I think they are pantherina. I know that pantherina is considered poisonous etc, but Ive also read many good experiences with it(when used safely) and experienced muscaria before.





poor picture of base in ground(damn camera)



Im scared of mistaking them for amanita phalloides or another deadly type, but they have warts and I did not notice any sack.. I hope with the picture it is enough to tell, If not Ill try to take better pictures of the base/stem next time.

I dont consider this a very safe/good test(what if it was poisonous?), I just thought Id throw it in. My %22crazy%22 friend smoked a very small dried piece and noticed a definite sleepy/dazed effect along with music enhancement.

It does look like pantherina.  Try to keep the whole base of Amanitas intact in order to properly ID them.  I can't reccommend eating them.

notice the reddish discoloration and lack of annulus.

It might be Amanita rubescens.

Definitely not a A. pantherina due to the red staining on the stem.

Don't smoke little bits of Amanita that has not yet been ID'd.  Smoking a death cap will probably kill you quicker than eating one.  The amatoxin in death caps is not destroyed by heat.

Amanita rubescens doesn't have a bulbous volva at the base of the stem, that is probably why you didn't notice it.

I didnt notice the red blushing, you guys are definitely right. I'd go with rubescens overall. also, looking at the other pictures I have, hypomyces hyalinus seems to have taken over some of them. "Parasitic on Amanita rubescens" -- mushroomexpert

Warriorsoul, if you look closely at the second and third photos you can see that there is no annulus because the partial veil has not yet broken on the specimen. It also somewhat resembles closely packed gills, so it's easy to miss in the photos.
