But please have mercy on your fellow members with slow internet connections and place only the thumbnail in threads.  Full sized images can literally make a page timeout before it loads.  It's really frustrating.

Glad I could help guys. :smile: And sorry for the false alarm which had everyone deleting their pics. I guess it's safe to assume things are working okay for now? There was a little instability with the new server at first but it seems to have sorted itself out. If it turns out we do need to switch hosts in the future, it should be a relatively straightforward process.

ScavengerType, we're using Bluehost. Compared to options like Amazon S3 and Nirvanix they offer less redundancy, but better pricing, improved latency, and more flexibility. Plus we always recommend them due to the generous $65 referral bonus, and it was time to put our money where our mouth is. :wink: So far, so good. :laugh:

I would like to point out that by editing pics and saving them using jpeg compression you can save a lot of space while retaining much of the image quality.
  heres a couple samples. the first one is exactly 1 meg in size and by saving with 60% jpeg compression the second image is only 180 kb......
 





and the images are still the same pixel size

but why do i have to click on all of the new pics to get to see them?
I find it kinda annoying, but i know its in the name of progress...

I could have sworn I mentioned the same thing. :wink: But when we automatically recompressed peoples' images they weren't happy with the results, and when we asked them to do it themselves they didn't. So I figured it made more sense to address the underlying issue. Even if we got everyone to use 50% compression on their JPEGs and limit them to 800 x 600, we only had 5GB left and it would just forestall the inevitable. This way we're good to go for a while at least.

I appreciate your being so accommodating. :smile: But I don't really know what you're talking about. You always had to click on pics to see them, but supporters have an option in their display preferences to "show full-sized local images instead of thumbnails" which should still work even with the new images. Or am I totally missing the point?

Lol... yes the point has been missed...

No i did not have to click on the images to view them before.

Before i was able to simply scroll thru a thread and see all of the pics right there in the thread.
Now when i scroll thru a thread the pics only appear as small blue boxes and i have to click on them, opening another window/tab to view them.

I also do have the "show full-sized local images instead of thumbnails" enabled:grin: but i thought that only affected the size of the pics in the original post.
They were thumbnails before supporter status, and Full Sized after that... Now they are tiny blue boxes:lol:

Why arent they visible in the threads themselves anymore?
If its just me... please say something, but I am experiencing this problem on ALL 5 of my computers... so its not just my computer(which I thought it was)

Aaah, gotcha. Actually this was a problem with the "retrieve offsite resources through a web-based proxy" option. The proxy we were using seems to have bit the dust (hope that wasn't our fault :tongue:). Just a coincidence that it happened when all the other image related stuff was going down though. It should be fixed now, can you confirm?
