i joined this message board this morning because i googled, "doug stanhope sucks" and this is the discussion that popped up. i watched a crap load of his shitty stand up last night and i can honestly say, i did not laugh once. he is a bill hicks wannabe, his rants are unfunny, and he using recycled bits with mediocre spins, very uninspiring. i cant believe someone on here said that hes carrying on the torch of bill hicks.

Comparing Hicks to Stanhope is a fucking insult to the man. He is an un original motherfucker and half his rants about DMT and what not he stole from McKenna. He is a class-a douchebag. Oh look at me I took acid 40 mins ago, and guess what. I am still not funny.

Name ONE stand-up comic who has actually influenced drug policy... in a POSITIVE way???

Stand-up comedy has NEVER, EVER, EVER, been helpful to causes for drug decriminalization/legalization/whatever. Thats because stand-up comics are talking about it. Be it Stanhope, Hicks, Carlin, Chevy Chase, doesn't matter. NONE of them have EVER helped the cause.... because they are stand-up comics. They don't wear suits.

Doug Stanhold was a complete unknown to me until just recently (7.2008) when I caught his act on cable. Hard to believe this guy has been around for 17 years & I have never heard of him. Both myself & my wife laughed so hard it hurt. I have not been this impressed with a comedian since the days of Pryor, or Carlin's more provocative thinking mans humor. If this guys act is any indication of his true abilities this is one of the best (profane yet provocative) comics I have ever seen. His humor will rock your socks off with laughter but also make you really think, wow %252522he is correct more times than not%252522 that really freaks you out. (By the way he does do drugs & attributes them to his success but he does not glorify them...he explains; He needed the drugs to alter his realty so he could see from outside the box of our conventional reality, then he needs the cigs to calm him down enough to be able to write everything down in a way that it is funny & received well by an audience...then lastly he needs the beer to give him the courage to perform on stage in front of all the %252522judgmental folks%252522 in the live audience. (I truly encourage everyone to check this guy out for yourself. (Just don't watch it with the kids...lol
