2009 ..the freejack prophecy...

freejack (1992) was admittedly a cheezoid movie...nevertheless..geoff murphy accurately predicted the conditions of todays world when he made the film back in 1992.. and may have also foretold the outcome of the 2008 election...

of course theres no "spiritual switchboard" technology featured in the film..but the economic..social..and political conditions that murphy depicted closely match the reality of 2008...for example..murphys' "freejacks" are analogous to todays' "enemy combatants" ..individuals who have had all their human rights revoked by unitary executive fiat...

more interesting is the name of murphys' villainous global CEO ..ian mccandless..."ian" means "john" in scottish.. and as "john mccandless".. its very close to john mccain...in murphys' film..mccandless had become incapacitated and his power supplanted by an even more villainous second-in-command.. and its very easy to see how this might be the case in a mccain administration.. while OTOH it also partially mirrors the current cheney co-presidency...

unfortunately..i couldnt find any pics from the movie to verify this..but if i remember correctly (and i could easily be wrong)..the mccandless tower in the film bore an eerie resemblance to the "freedom tower" currently under construction on the ground zeor site in NYC...

in the movie..emilio estevezs' character ultimately usurps the dictatorship.. but then its only a movie...

Artists possibly draw from the collective unconscious which contains memories of future events.

I know the WTC buildings were popular but the theme of them being destroyed occurs in dozens of works of fiction.

i doubt that any film critics would call freejack a work of art...but that might actually be part of the reason why it became so accurate ..if murphy had made a good movie..then it might have been taken seriously as a warning and prevented itself from becoming a reality...tragically..this was not the case...

Right, I'm using 'Art' in the broadest sense possible.

I think art itself can effect minds and thus reality, especially mass media.

All the TV shows and movies about a terrorist attack on the US for example, it's like we want it to happen.

Sometimes the actions of the actors themselves are a ritual infused with someone's intent...

freejack was such a bad movie that i doubt it could have swayed anyone like that.. which is why it didnt become a warning either...
