The ringing in the distance.....

When I was in high school and early college, i used to always "hear" this ringing far off in the distance. I first heard this sound around when i first started tripping on acid. It wasnt an actual sound that i hear with my ears. More like this persistant feeling of intense energy somewhere calling to me. The more i ignored it, the louder it persisted...telling me that there is somewhere important i need to go, something important i need to do...

I traveled around europe restlessly for a while, hoping i would find whatever it was. By the end of my travels, the humming had finally went away (or at least died down a lot). I never exactly found anything...though i did find part of myself.

I thought the ringing was finally gone.

A few days ago i had a good acid trip, i havent had a good trip like that in years.

Now i notice that it is back...and Loud. That humming far off in the horizon, that makes me just want to drop everything and go chasing it... find whatever is calling me.

Every once in a while i try to explain this to somebody, but nobody knows wtf i am talking about. Has anybody else ever felt something like this? What could it be? What does it want? Am i just crazy?

The summer is starting and there is energy in the air...

It's probably just your ears ringing and acid makes you pay attention to it more.

no, once again  it is NOT actually a sound, i just describe it as one because thats the closest sense i can equate it to... its more like a feeling of an intense magnetic intelligent vibration far away pulling at me

The ringing you hear reminds me of a common ayahuasca experience. Users commonly hear and feel a very high pitch which they seem to tune with. This frequency is always present. Psychedelics make it obvious.

i get a physical ringing in my left ear a lot. I think there are some bad frequencies about. Sometime a lot of people get it at the exact same time, in the same ear.

It sounds more like an odd form of an urge, that manifests for you as a tone/feeling/vibe.

I honestly don't know what it is if its not tinnitus.

Maybe through some self insight/soul searching/meditation you may be able to discover why your mind is manifesting something along the lines of an urge/desire as a tone...

I wish i could help, but this sounds more along the lines of a personal quest. Think positive, maybe you will come across a profound insight that will change your life for the better. :mushroom2:


On a side note, i have had tinnitus for as long as i can remember, and in a silent insulated room, its defining. I used to work in some cool studios, and meditating in there was a really incredible experience. Its really amazing when you can get lost in the noise your mind is creating, very fun. I just wish i had access to a isolation tank....:grin:

I also have a very large number of visual artifacts, little dots that appear in the corner of my vision, and when i track my eye to them, they move away at the same angle and speed as my eye. Or streaks of white light that move across my field of vision, or tunnel vision, white outs, and other visual aura.

Black isn't really black to me, i mean i KNOW its black, but in my vision it looks like static on a tv, but the specs are every color in the rainbow, and in random patterns. All colors and texture are like this for me, they almost shimmer, in this odd colorful static haze. My vision is fine normal 20/20, and all no color blindness, or HPPD, but i see some weird shit.

But the more psychonauts i talk too, the more i find this is common place, all of my friends and family know exactly what im talking about, and all of them have tripped many many times. I haven't really brought it up to some one who hasn't tripped hard, or frequently at one point.

I also have 2 different sized pupils so....:shrug:

Yeah it's not a sound. Your ears ringing is actually the frequencies that your ear can no longer hear. You aren't actually "hearing" anything. Obviously if I'm wrong I'm wrong, but acid makes me notice weird shit like that too that just never crosses my mind otherwise.

as far as sound goes its pretty easy to feel, as far as me on a couch as the waves hit feelin the cold that comes in behind

that rining is jus omninous a great place for concious to root itself or float

vision id go as far as shades of color, split seconds if you will i try identifyin them with emotions but the more i try the less i figure they make sence, English is a annoyance/oversight at this point

tho i do get specs from time to time in any color really they especially like to blip when im lookin towards the sky talkin about a new idea

id say the same with the specs/instead of dark

sounds really do sneak up on me tho, my bro turned on the blender in the other room and just the whir start got me alert lol

although yours sounds a little bit different, there was a thread about this in PS, they were talking about it coming from meditation.

when i used to meditate and trip, i used to get brief flashes of ringing. they would be very very loud and rapidly go down in volume over half a second. they were usually loud enough that i would flinch and shout something like "what the fuck"

i always thought it was cosmic mental radiation or some shit.

Ive never had it happen to me personally but i have had two friends who have had a very similar thing happen to them.

Very short lived but very high pitch, piercing, almost popping sound. They both had it happen but they were months apart, and the guys were not together during each others event.

They both described the same thing, what i found the most strange was neither one had a direction, they both said it almost felt like it came from inside of their head.

Interesting, wonder if the OP has a similar phenomenon that doesn't subside...

I ocasionally hear the most intriguing noises that I HAVE to go and investigate. The urge to find the sound is compleatly overwhelming and if I cant go to it - it takes all my concentration to stay put & not follow it.

The only thing is like Help On the Way states - its not actually a sound. It kind of comes from inside my brain, but I sort of hear it calling me to go.. ?? where I dont know. Usually if I try to find it, I just end up out in the backyard - compleatly mesmerised by the beauty of it all (my backyard is a jungle - literally). Sitting outside for a little while generally makes the sound subside and eventually go away. I often find myself in different parts of the garden though - looking at shit I'd just never noticed before. Maybe its the same sort of thig, but just on a smaller scale (or maybe the universe wants me to find something closer to home than you?)

The only way I've found to control this urge is to mentally track down the source of the noise until I come to the conclusion its not actually a noise - but just something coming out of my head. Then I remind myself over and over that its not real, just something my brain is doing to play games. It usually works. Sometimes not.

This only started happening after I started taking Acid & MDMA & HEAVILY smoking pot. I once asked an acid freak friend of mine what it was all about (I thought it was normal) she reckoned I was crazy and said I should cut back on the drugs. I've never told anyone since!!

I've only had acid like 4 times ever though. But then, I am one of the few people I know of to have full blown hallucinations on pot (I once stopped the car to pick up a hitch-hiker that never existed.. much to my friends delight & worry - I WAS driving after all!!)

I also often get the sensation of crabs or bugs crawling in and out through my ears (from smoking pot). This used to really scare me at first - untill I was tripping one day when it happened and I had a conversation with the universe about it. Apparently its just my brain going out for a look-see around the universe. Since then it really doesnt bother me too much. I've also experienced this sensation of my brain crawling out my ears when I'm WAAY tired and in times of high stress. My brain bails on me. how nice!

Flashbacks, insanity, halucinations or something bigger?? I have no idea. I'd like to go with something bigger (but thats just so I dont feel so crazy!!)
