i think he means that he can retire from the senate, knowing he did all he could, career-wise. i don't know if ole teddy boy still feels any guilt about what happened that night, but he very well should. if he had called 911 and reported the accident right after it happened, theres a very good chance that she may have been saved. that is unforgivable in my opinion. i remember dennis leary saying we killed all the wrong people in this country "we kill john, we kill bobby and leave ted" - something like that.
that aside, i'm sorry to hear he has a brain tumor. my grandmother on my father's side suffered from the same thing, and its a horrible way to die.
