It makes me sad that European people could not co-exist with the Native Americans. I understand that it wasn't possible, but it's still tragic.

I really wish I could have been around to hang out with some of the more peaceful tribes. Every time I'm in the woods hunting or fishing I can't help but think back hundreds of years to what was there on my property.

Thinking like that trips me the fuck out!:psychsplit:

BTW: The pictures in the video really evoked in me a sense of sadness and respect, that is...if they're even genuine.

I wish i was native american. I feel horrible even living in american when i think about it, because i know that all that we have was built on the murder of a entire race.

Its insaine to think of all the screwed up things America has done to get started, then does to keep going. It's no wonder we fear attacks of all kinds from everyone, because what we have done in the past, we know can happen to us.

Im sure if you look through any culture deep enough, you will find it was built upon killing another people. I bet some of our ancestors even were cannibals.

The murder of the American Indians, can be compaired to the holocaust of the Jews. It makes me sick to think about it. But to most people, it's just history.

Heh, most of the Americans I've met are pretty sound. I just dislike the fact that the American culture has almost irradicated the North American Indian's way of life.

With all respect, American culture is nothing compared to the North American Indian's. They had a deep respect for nature, never took more than they could use, always made sure they looked after nature so she would look after them. I don't see the American way of mass consumerism, war mongering and destruction of the environment as an adiquate replacement. 

However, admitting that you were at fault redeems you in my eyes. :peace:

Sure, we are just animals after all and we need to survive but there are good (or should I say "justifiable") reasons for war and bad reasons. Defending your home against invaders who seek to destroy your culture, take your land and enslave you is justifiable. Invading a country under false pretenses for oil, or mass murder under the excuse of religion is not.

americas 'hitler' is memorialized for some reason on one of the
more common bank notes, maybe it helps people to remember what a
proud history america had

It's almost embarrassing that I had not made the Hitler/Jackson connection before.

For serious, it's sickening, but blaming modern americans for the genocide of the native americans would be like blaming modern germans for hitler.

It's just been so long that nobody cares anymore. They forget that this kind of treachery still happens in this country. Maybe not on the same scale, but it definitely happens.

You forgot Grant, another money guy. He gave guys like Sherman and Custer great leeway to fuck the Native Americans over and generally treat them like shit. And by that point Sherman was probably the greatest enemy they ever had.

You're probably already acquainted with this, but here's Sherman talking about the "Plains Indians:"

"We are not going to let a few thieving, ragged Indians check and stop the progress of the railroads.... I regard the railroad as the most important element now in progress to facilitate the military interests of our Frontier.

"We must act with vindictive earnestness against the Sioux, even to their extermination, men, women and children. (The Sioux must) feel the superior power of the Government.

"During an assault, the soldiers cannot pause to distinguish between male and female, or even discriminate as to age."

Unforgivable. I always liked him for what he did to the South, but ultimately Sherman was a fucking monster. Custer was just a garden variety lunatic by comparison. Sherman was his superior officer, and directed the War against the Indians. He did to them what he did to the South, and it worked with deadly efficiency.

why should it be, the school systems talks about the trail of
tears just briefly and mentions that 6000 people died while
being driven like cattle to the Kiowas, they speak of the
cherokee in that brief instance, they dont talk much abut the
slaughter of all the people at wounded knee, unarmed and
peaceful, every living thing in that camp was murdered

the army was 'just following orders' when they did it to many

This reminded me of a rock group from my area that blended in a lot of these Native American sounds and wrote some of their traditional lore into their songs.
