How long does it take to get tax return money from the IRS?

Just wondering how long it takes to get the return back after they received the taxes.

I sent mine in about two weeks before they were due.

Well, they're sending out the first checks on the second of May. But it's hard to tell, it could be anytime from the then to the end of June.

I did my taxes back in Feb and I got my money in about 2-3 weeks. They only send out money twice a month. I think its the first and 3rd tuesday, but i might be wrong.

do you mean your refund or the rebate??

the later you file the later you will get either..

also it depends on if you e-filed or not..the
e-file is obviously quicker but you have to
give the IRS your bank account # which alot
of people refuse to do...

I e-filed mid February and recieved my refund
in about 10 days and expect the rebate to
arrive June-July...

I mailed my taxes in opposed to efiling and it took ages before I saw my refund. Id guess it was 6-8 weeks before I got either my state or federal.

Im looking forward to that tax rebate as well, get myself out of debt a bit

I paid $165 for some old man accountant to do them... Check arrived a week later.

Totally worth it. :smile:

totally, when I was younger I would't send my hand written
forms into the IRS until the beginning of April and it took
forever to get my refund back..apparently alot of people
file near the deadline...

MOTH: personally I wouldn't be counting on that check for
May's rent money or anything..

you can go to irs.gov and take a look where it says "when to expect refund". you will need to know your social serc. # and how much you are gettting back. it will tell you when to expect a check.. there is also a place where you can look to see when to expect a stimulus rebate check, you just need to know the last two #'s of your social.

Just to clarify:

Tax Return = the forms you file with the IRS & State Govt.

Tax Refund = the money they send you if you overpaid
