homade fish emulsions
    #8277940 -

im going to have pretty much unlimited access to fish once they start running this spring and want to take advantage of this organic fert.
ive been reading on how to make it this is what i came up with:

Place the fish remains into a five gallon pail. Then fill the pail about 3/4 full with water.
Stir the contents of the bucket quite well and allow it to stand for a day or two, stirring it when you have a chance to do so. Make sure you place the pail in a spot that animals won't bother it.
After a day or two has passed, carefully strain out the remaining scraps. You can do this by placing a piece of cheesecloth over the top of the pail, and tie it securely to the pail. Use the now-smelly water on your plants as you would any other fertilizer.

will this work well for mj, and do i have to compost the fish remains before i make the tea or does it matter?

ps. they are bottom feeders will i have to worry about any chemicals they might suck up in the river? the river im fishing isn't polluted at all and dosn't have any factories on it or even flow through a city. its just a small stream flowing through northern michigan woods.
peace

I never thought about doing is using fish from a river, but I have been planning to set up a complete aquaponics system for a restaurant me and my friend are planning.

Check into some of the larger aquaponics research sites and I bet somebody has good information about doing it the way you're talking about.

From my understanding of aquaponics, a solid particle filter is all that's necessary to run the water through from the fish to the plants. Again this is for an aquarium though and I have no idea if that stays the same for pulling stuff out of a river.

can one of you guys some up a question i have here,
you guys are talking about using fish poo as fertalizer, so theoretically you could create a self contained eco system using the poo to grow fertalize whatever plants you would like

You could do like the Native Americans did and cover a dead fish with some soil and plant a seed..

Aquaponics, look it up, it'll give you a lot of information about what you're trying to do.

It's basically a hydroponics set up except instead of a reservoir with chemical fertilizers a fish tank is hooked up through hoses and pumps into the plants. Water is filtered through a screen going from the fish to the plants and then again on the way back.

So the entire life-cycle of the plants are using the fish waste for fertilzer. Of course you can do this without setting up the tanks and pods for the plants, just like you can grow in soil instead of hydroponics. You can still gather just the fish wastes and forget about the whole system but there are whole ways to do this.

Sounds good way would you need the fish ?..Its easy to add more, harder to take it out...

I mix these into my potting mix soil

BioBizz Pre-Mix (3-3-5) is concentrated with natural fertilizers including brown seaweed (Ascophyllum nodosum), composted chicken manure, green kelp, molasses, soybean meal, pre-fermented soy extracts and Vinasse-Kali extract.

Blend it with your rooting media, top dress around the plant stem or add it directly to your nutrient solution to develop a protective silicon shield. Silicon improves your plants' resistance to heat and nutritional stresses naturally, deters fungal diseases and reduces insect damage for stronger development and denser, heavier fruit.
