New CPU - - - Vista?
    #8191527 -

So, I have to buy a new computer, and I've heard a lot of things about Vista, mostly bad, but no specifics. Should I get Vista, or should I look somewhere for a good powerful XP?

Vista is horrible. Stay with XP, the third service pack is reportedly being released sometime mid-april.

But what's bad about it?

None of the manufacturers sell XP anymore, but maybe I can get a good deal on a new one secondhand?

Vista is XP with a load of junk added that just slows it down. It looks phat but when I worked at a school with it, it was just more of a hassle to work with compared to xp.

Not all people are comfortable with building there own PC's!

Alot of companies support down grading since Vista is not doing well.

Why vista sucks? A lot of reasons:

Most complaints are from the security they implemented.. its REALLY annoying.. also vista is slow, bloated, and annoying!

I just got a computer from Dell. They packaged it with XP Pro.

A freshly formatted XP Pro comp, running black vipers tweaks has provided me an extremely stable OS.

I found a new XP through Dell that seems perfect. It seems like I'll be going down that route.

Search for a coupon code. I got about $200 off mine by googling.

I'd go with building your own.
You will spend about half as much... and get a computer that is twice as powerful. And it's not like it's hard to do.
If you insist on buying a pre-built computer, I'd stay away from Dell, HP, Compaq, and all those shitboxes. Dell is decent. But I'd personally look at Toshiba. They make some pimp ass laptops that's for sure.

Oh and Vista is a piece of shit.

Out of curiosity, how much cheaper can you go building your own?

I don't "game" so I don't need a whole lot.

I just got a intel quad-core at 2.4 Ghz and 3gb of RAM for $650. How much would I have saved?

It depends what components you put in your system. You can go super cheap or you can put the highest quality in and spend about the same.

Generally speaking... the computer manufacturers tend to use the cheapest, lowest quality components. That's the biggest benefit of building your own system - you control what gets put into it.

I'm not going to look up all the prices for your system.. but in general.. building your own system with higher quality components, will usually cost a few hundred less.

you really have to make a decision between quality and price. For example you can buy some ram for $10 or you can get the same amount but a better brand for $100-$200

when you buy bear bones computers from the big name companys, most of the time they are using noname products. most of the time you just don't know what your buying.

im not sure what all came with your computer, would need all the specs

i dont have it, but two of my friends do, and i have used their systems, its just crap. it seems like it will be much better in a year or two after they unleash a better faster CPU.

i prefer XP SP2 any day.
