Across the Universe, or American Gangster?

I just got these two movies because of all the hype. Anyone got any suggestions on which one to watch first?

They're both good in my opinion, I still haven't seen the extended American Gangster though.
I say Across the Universe first if you're fucked up, otherwise, American Gangster.

Across The Universe if your in a relaxed possibly high state even though its great anyways. American Gangster otherwise. Now give me suggestions in my Showtime! thread! haha

I've watched both of those movies for the first time recently. Depends what you're in the mood for... if you want a psychedelic musical, Across the Universe has it in the bag. On the other hand, if you're lookin' for a higher degree of suspense and drama, American Gangster takes the ticket. All things considered, I believe Across the Universe is a considerably more unique movie. American Gangster is typical Hollywood, good, but its been done before. Across the Universe was a movie the likes of which I hadn't previously experienced.

American Gangster was a decent movie, but they really strayed from the actual story too much. That doesn't make the movie better or worse, but it still pissed me off. I vote Across the Universe.

i suggest not to watch across the universe, i really disliked it, it dragged on and i mean, you can never go wrong with the beatles, and they didnt go wrong, it just, i believe if you make somthing with the bealtes, it better be fucking incredible, and this movie was about a 3 1/2 star... in my book, but american gangster was cool, id give that 4 stars

Just finished american gangster. The movie was pretty good. I didn't really know shit about Frank Lucas, but it was a pretty good insight on the drug business and how things really go on. I did some research and realized the filmmakers strayed from the true story a bit. But it just added to the drama and worked pretty good. Frank Lucas really knew his shit. Staying low key is crucial in the drug business, you can't be flashy like so many people are. All in all I thought the movie was pretty good, probably like 4 stars.

AG was really good anything that Denzel Washington acts in is usually pretty good. Him and Johnny Depp are 2 of the best actors of our time.

personally I thought Across the Universe was a pretty lame movie. American Gangster is much better. AG wasn't anything AMAZING, but it was still a pretty decent movie.

i haven't seen across the universe yet, but i did see american gangster, and i thought it was a pretty damn good movie. it's a cool story, it has a good amount of action, and it was very well acted imo. i'd certainly like to see it again.

Don't forget Val Kilmer. He is one of the best true actors I have seen. Watch The Saint, The Doors or Tombstone and you will know what I'm talking about.

yah i loved the saint when it came out, but all his movies since then have been pretty much a let down

his career has kind of cooled a bit. i think his most recent project is doing the voice of 'kit' in the new knight rider series...kind of cool, but a bit sad too considering he was so awesome in heat, the doors, tombstone etc etc.
