I'm interested in experience reports of people having been subjected to "non lethal weaponry".

The circumstances are less important than the actual effect the treatment had on you. What did it feel like? Did it put you out immediately? What was the aftermath?

I'm interested in the effects of both personal defense weapons and crowd control weaponry used in protest/riot situations.

Please share your experiences!

Ive had teargas used on me it was a pretty awful experience. nothing but snot running out of my nose, couldnt stop coughing, couldnt see anything, and it burned the shit out of my skin. oh and I threw up on myself.

I asked a cop to shoot me with his taser after we saw him walking in the middle of the street playing with it, then he pointed it at us it had this red beam shinning at us, he was just playing and I asked him if he would shoot me but he said he could get in trouble.

Dang Chemy. I sense a story or two there.

I've gotten by ok with my few leo encounters. I got hold of a case of tear gas when I was a kid. I shared a bunch with friends and we attacked each other at random over the next couple of months. That's stuff a bitch. The skin and eye burning is bad enough but it was breathing it that really got me. We also used to shock ourselves and each other with a couple of cheap model stun guns. I only found it annoying for the most part. I certainly would trust one of those for defense. The more expensive models I can only assume are another story.

i peppersprayed myself one time in high school. My gf had one of those small keychain ones, and I was wondering how bad it really was, and how good it could really protect someone. Well, there was only one way to truly find out and my gf wouldn't spray me, so I sprayed myself.

It was quite painful, and it seemed the only way to make it any better was to shut your eyes close them as hard as possible, if that makes sense. It just burned hellaciously bad everytime I opened them. The area of skin around your eyes, under your nose, and around your lips is also burning slightly and tingling. It was very uncomfortable, while it did not drop me to the ground, i was fully incapacitated by the spray, If I was wanting to beat someone up, it would be almost impossible as I couldn't see.

Good part is it goes away pretty quick if you have some water on hand to wash it out. 10 minutes after I washed it I could see mostly, after less than an hour, I was fine like before I was sprayed. Except it seemed to stay underneath my finger nails for a whole day.

In short, pepper spray is effective, but there is room for improvement.

I got caught up on a crowd control release once. I dont know how it was released and I was tripping so hard that I didnt even know it was released until people started running the other way yelling tear gas. I didnt think it was really that bad, of course I was inebriated, it defiantly wouldnt have stopped a person bent on doing something.

Sprayed with Dog and Bear repellent, the only legal option in Canada. Burns quite a bit. Any moisture on your face feels like its burning. If you breathe it in it feels almost like it coats your lung, and all you can do is cough and splutter.

If you have any Asthma I wouldn't recommend it.

if you were in the presence of CS gas you would know, tripping or not tripping. that shit makes you blind, gagging for air, and would drop you to your knees.

Maybe I was too far away from the release or maybe it was pepper gas, I dunno. I dont even know how it was released just remember people running towards me yelling tear gas. It burned the eyes/nose/mouth/throat a little and that was it. I did puke about 10 min later but I attribute that to the shrooms I had eaten earlier (+ the running).

maybe I just had an extremely shitty experience, I was inside a building where CS gas was used, shit fucking sucked

In the 4 years I was in the Marines I went through the CS gas chamber 3 times and was pepper-spray qualified 5 times.

What the CS gas chamber was like:
Usually you just go in with your gas mask on, they tell you to remove it and hold it above your head while holding your breath and eyes closed. After about 20 seconds they tell you to put it back on and clear it but the 3rd time I did it they made us take off our masks and sing the Marine Corps Hymn. They wouldn't let us out until we could sing it in unison.

CS gas sucks. It burns your eyes. It burns your lungs when you inhale. It causes massive amounts of mucus to eject from your nostrils in long snotty streams that can stretch from your nose, all over your chest and down to the floor. Some people vomit although it didn't have that effect on me.

With a little willpower you can get used to it though. It shouldn't send you to the ground writhing in pain or anything. It just fucks with your respiratory system and makes you feel as if you can't breath. If you stay calm and control your breathing though, it's not so bad. It just feels like you're breathing fiberglass insulation.

What pepper spray was like:
Pepper spray qualification includes being sprayed with military grade oleoresin capsicum (pepper spray) in a "z" pattern just above the eyebrows. Then they make you open your eyes and blink several times as the spray runs down into them. When they're sure that it has taken effect they then require you to drop and do 20 push-ups, then you run about 20 yards to an instructor holding a punching bag, and perform the MCMA (Marine Corps Martial Arts) maneuvers that are called out over the next 10-15 seconds then you run to the next instructor holding a bag and repeat. After you've run the gauntlet of 4 or 5 instructors you are free to quickly flush your eyes with water and then have 30 minutes to recover.

The pain is immense. Your eyes burn like never before. You gasp for breath and feel as if your airway is being restricted. The trick here is to not panic and just reassure yourself that you're not going to die. Remember that the pain is temporary and it will go away. The purpose of the qualification exercise is to teach the Marine how to stay in the fight even if they've had their OC spray used against them.

when I was in the airport in Denver or Tulsa waiting for a connecting flight there were two marines behind me talking. They didn't know each other, they just happened to recognize the military issue bag and got to talking. They talked about boot camp and the tear gas exercises... sounded pretty much like Beetlejuice's story... except one said the day of the gas exercises their drill sergeant made them dry shave then go through the gas exercises. that shit must have hurt.

Ive gotten tased and pepper sprayed by 1 friend.

But tasers and pepper spray can be bought around here easily .

I love getting tased, hurts like hell but it's fun. Ive gotten the one with the 2 needles into my back and I got the one that has the two prongs and just passes current through them and yuo see the current passing and it's a blue color. Looks like what they emporer does in Star wars.

I remember this summer we'd all be sitting at a table at the park smoking a J while listening to some music and the dude with the taser that has stationary prongs comes up to my side while im hitting the J and tases me. I fell off the bench because I wasn't expecting it and I got burned by the tip of the J.

I was already high as a kite and just laughed it off, fun experience that was.

teargas(a lot of)- feels like intense burning in the eyes, sinuses, and lungs. copious amounts snot. my vision was reduced I'd say about 75%. the burning in the eyes was bearable, but the tearing blurred my vision.
made me cough and it was mildly hard to breathe, it didn't put me out immediately. the aftermath was just getting the snot out of my sinuses and getting fresh air. no lasting burning sensation or coughing once I was away from the gas.

pepper spray(a lot of)-feels like mild burning in the eyes. no noticeable burning sensation on the skin though.
it made it very difficult to breathe, so much in fact that I literally couldn't take another breath after several minutes in a giant cloud of it.
it didn't put me out immediately, but I wasn't ever the one being directly pepper sprayed. I just happened to be in some places that many people were getting sprayed at the same time.
if I were sprayed directly I'm pretty certain I'd be almost instantly put out.
the burning eyes and difficulty breathing lasts quite a while IMO, even from just being in the area that it was sprayed.
