what exactly are you having trouble with? i am not familiar with the song but i can't see why you wouldn't be able to do it, if you can do it in other songs.

Well those are pretty fast for someone who's been playing for a year, just practice it a lot.

Can you play hammer-ons that make the destination note ring? Practice hammer-ons without picking, you want them to sound be themselves, a great excercise for finger strenght.

ahh just listened to it. sound like there are some pull-offs too. other than that if you have some decent speed and co-ordination i still can't see what you're getting wrong.

when you play it and you hammer 0h2h4 you then have to pull off 4p0 on the D string all in quick succession listen to the timing

http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/tabs/l/led_zeppelin/over_the_hills_and_far_away_ver3_tab.htm

also try picking hard to get that sound more of an upward type of way like plucking a string, also make sure your guitar is tuned,

i think this is the part you are talking about the very opening

Good pull-offs are easier than good hommer-ons tho, but still the best way to practice both is playing with only your left hand

Wow, Jimmy Page has such a strange sound, it's all in his relatively weak fingers I'd say... The tablature makes it look hard

damn bro, it took me 3 to 4 years of guitar playing to be able to play that really well. i remember after a year there was a bunch of shit i could play, i thought i'd be good really soon, then learned there's a lot more time it takes to develop and learn good guitar, there's a lot of crap involved, man, alot. There are so many tricks and techniques and coordination involved shit with guitar. The same thing happened after 2 years, i thought i was getting it all, and then realized there's more to learn. same with 3 years, and 4 years. Anyway after all this time i finally realized that it's hard to ever know too much about playing guitar. You could play a piece of a really hard song and doesn't mean you've mastered it like it's the back of your hand.

hell, who knows, maybe no ones ever really learned as much as they can about guitar, even jimmy page or jimmy hendrix or eric clapton or whoever you favorite guitarist is.

you want to know something that really helps? at the guitar center i go to, they have these dvds that show you how to play the styles of people like deep purple or led zeppelin or whatever. You should pick that up, you learn the style these people play with by seeing someone play 30 of their songs, and probably the want you want to learn. You learn all the shit they do and can basically play whatever the fuck you want. good luck......

Dude, I'm a professional guitarist, I've been playing for ~10 years and I play 5 instruments... I still learn stuff everyday if I take the time to really focus into it.

There's just so much to music, it is like life in a small scale... and life is like music in a big scale... and anyway they're both the same, for you're born, resonate and disappear... just like music.

If you're having trouble with the timing its because jimmy page can't play in time (not kidding, listen to that song carefully its not in time)

But play it slowly and once you can play it accurately speed it up

For real, my he had also a really bad bending technique, I don't know if you guys have noticed that... I think it's because his hands are relatively small=weak so he used really light strings wich go out of tune when you're excited

He's stil amazing anyway.

that's pretty wise, and true. You can always learn new shit, i mean, hell, look at how good fuckin les paul played, then decades later jimmy hendrix came along and played shit he never would've thought of. Oh well.....
peace

There's just ssooooooooooo much to learn... I don't think anyone is able to play all styles proficiently... Take Paco de Lucia and Jimi Hendrix for example!
No-one has matched them yet in their own styles, let alone both at the same time!

But of course, that's the thing, to develop your own style...

thanks allot guys i really appreciate all of your help. especially yours kurtz. i guess it will just take more practice. for some reason it just doesn't sound right when play it. when i hear others play it it doesn't sound as if they are pulling off and hammering on it sounds like they are just playing different notes, even tho they are h-o/p-o. i just learned a new Mexican jam today tho:sun:.

Thanks allot, Devin
