Do the Deadly galeria's turn dark like the Cyan's?? How do you realy tell if the darker ones mixed with the tan are poisones, you cant realy see blue staining because the stem is already prity dark. This is my main question.

When I pick a Cyan,in minutes you can see the major blue stain from handling. If you are careful you shouldn't have a problem identifing a Cyan from a Galerina.Take prints and just observe the beauty of the Cyan. When I found my first Cyan ever, I knew that second it wasn't a galerina.A good book always helps,or a few books like I have, and take pics man!!!I would love to see some San Fran Cyans. If you have doubt, post the pic, we will all help you out in your identification!! ------------------ Listen to brother oDin,show us your tits!:D I love Oolar!!

HEy, I wouldnt worry to much about picking the wrong ones. They do look really different. These hippies showed me what they looked like when i was in sf picking last time, i found a nice patch in gggp under some ivy over by the chinese plant exhibit. Cyans turn blue, have white stems, they pull up alot of debre when you pick them, the mycelium is vigorous, you shouldnt have a problem. So, when did you pick the last time, i was hoping this rain would bring some more around. I want to make a trip to sf this week. Let me know if this was a recent trip. Thnaks, Mycelium

I had a very similar experiance with some old cubies I ate. I only ate two g's and wasn't expecting a mind blowing experiance. I started feeling effects soon after ingestion, then as I expected I was on a nice, smooth, mellow trip. The trip lasted about 2-3 hours and began to fade then BAM! Out of now where very I started hallucinating scary shit. I woulnd't call it trippin' because they effects were so different than a mushroom trip. They were like you said, acid like visuals except very real. The main effect was the perception of body distortion. Such as swolen hands/feet etc...I also felt very feverish. As these effects increased, I could tell that something else I had ate was casusing this. I started freakin bad, really bad, unexplainable. It was definately not the shrooms that caused this. The effects felt were nothing like a mushroom trip. There was no tracers or visual colors, it was real hallucinations, not morphing objects or cool patterns. And this all happened like 3 hours after I ate the mushrooms and the trip was fading. Anyway, your story reminded me of a similar experiance I had. I'm not sure if this is what you experianced or not. I talked with a very knowledgeable friend of mine about this experiance and he immediately knew what I was describing. He said he had an identical experiance once when he ate wild mushrooms picked in a highly populated city. He researched and found out theres a certain contaminent that when ingested with psilocin reacts in this manner. It only occurs in an area where pollution is high. I live in ATL. and the smog was at it all time highest last summer. I'm not sure if this was the cause or not. People in the west eat stunzi's that grow in the from yard of their suburbia neighborhood and don't experiance any side effects. All I can say is be aware of the area in which the mushrooms are growing. Its is said that mushrooms along roadsides can contain many toxins from trash, exhaust fumes, etc..

You know I hadnt thought of that, very good point. Now that I think about it the grounds that I picked the shrooms from where sprayed with pesticides guess they spray for gofer or some shit, that would explain the bad body noise (little sharp stinging in the stomach every once and a while) THE BASTARDS! hehe and they wonder why we got shrooms growing in our closets.

Hi There .I would like to mention that iof one were to asked Paul Stamets about me he would say well Mushroom John has picked more musrooms in his life than any person Paul has ever known. I speak this in response to your topic of smog and exhaust fumes along roads and parking areas. In Seattle between 1973 and 1986, I must have picked more than one million mushrooms, Many of which were Psilocybe stuntzii and many were growing in parking lots, along sidewalks by streets, the moostt common area in Seattle and the whole of Pugot Sound all the way from British Colombia to Eugen, Oregon, where Jochen Gartz and I picked a thirty pound patch in 1994, and we have eaten these shrooms and given them to hundreds of other peole and noone has ever gotten sick or ill from the musrhooms. Farmers even spray chemicals in their fields and fertilizers int their fields. Cows eat the chemicals and fertilizers and they also fall on the shrooms which the cows also eat while they eat the grass. I see no reason for this topic you guys posted to lead to more disinformation about the shrooms. No one gets sick from chemicals on their shrooms or exhausts or other outrside stimulai. Bye for now, Mj

Like I said in my post, people have been pickin' shrooms in city areas for years and years without any negitive effects. I'm not trying to scare anyone away from wild mushrooms, I just thought I'd share my similar experiance. In my opinion it is safer to ingest wild mushrooms than it is cultivated mushrooms, long as you know what your doing. However I'll have to disagree MJ, when you say that mushrooms do not pick up toxins from they're surroundings. Just because you didn't become sick doesn't mean you haven't been ingesting small amounts of toxins everytime you eat a mushroom from a road ditch. Mushrooms are highly absorbant and it is advised by many mycologists not to eat mushrooms along the roadside. I'm no scientist but I'll take the advice. The Lizard,

Mj, I would never want to question your expertise about mushrooms but Ill have to agree with the Lizard King on this one. Roadside toxins are there, you cant really see them, but theyre there. Its debateable whether or not they would make you sick... probably not. Citys,,, I figure that liveing in a city and eating a mushroom that you pick in a city are the same thing almost... You and the mushroom are both growing in the same enviorment (Just a thought). Pollution wouldnt be much (much) of a issue unless the levels of pollution were so high like that of a chemical waste facility or something likewise. Screw it, I just dont like to pick in littered fields,,, too much pieces of garbage that distract me from finding my shrooms.

Hi, I've been looking around in SF for quite some time, and haven't been able to find anything. Admittedly, I have never actually seen a Ps. Cyan, but I have seen pics of them on the web, and know ABOUT what they look like (I've also seen pics of their look-alikes). Was just wondering if anyone would like to give a newbie hunter some advice on where to look... Don't worry, I have enough common sense to verify identity before eating, in case you were going to mention that... I'm posting now because we've been having the most rain this year here in SF recently. Thanks for any help.------------------ Would YOU trade your funk for what's behind the third door?

Agubwa- I've wondered the same b/c I'll be in San Fran/Sacremento in early March. Unfortunately, seems March is way too late to find psilocybes in the bay area...Anyway... I found lots of info searching this Mushroom Hunting forum (top right of the page) using the terms "bay area" "san franciso", etc. Seems Redwood Park is a hotspot at the right times Good luck GT
