ive been on some form of ssri most of my life, (from the age of 8) i really dont know anything else because most of what ive experienced from not taking my meds is prolly withdrawls anyway
im gonna start cutting it down by 10mgs a week so the withdrawls arent as bad... im tired of being told that this is whats best, im tired of being addicted to some shit that i was started on before i even knew what the fuck it was
fucking doctors fucking parents... its just fucked up

anti depressents are no good at all
i went to the doctor telling him i had bad anxiety, and its really hurting my social life.....he just gave me a script for lexapro
ITS ALL BULLSHIT
as soon as i learned what lexapro was i said no....
sure it helps, but in my opinion it does more damage in the long run
its good to hear your trying to slow it down, get off it
but its going to be hard, apparently your body "doesnt produce enough serotonin" .........i think there are ways of handling these types of problems without using medicine
good luck to you

Red Ice Creations Radio did an interesting interview about SSRIs. If you have the time, give it a listen, you might get some tips on how to effectively come off the drug.

ive tried stopping dozens of times over the years, and mostly whats happened is ive gotten severely depressed and disphoric, my attitude went to shit, and ive done crappy things to my friends
im hoping itll be different this time as i ease off from 40mgs, rather than just not taking it like before
i eventually just accepted it and they upped my dosage, i was on 20 before when i tried to quit... this is gonna be hard as fuck, ive never had to deal with withdrawls before, cause i stay well away from addictive substances
fuck the doctors nobody told me that ssris were so fucking addictive and they only told me shit lies and led me to believe these withdrawals were just how screwed up i am, not that they were an addictive substance leaving my body
and fuck my parents doubly so, they put a fucking 8 year old on antidepressants just because i wasnt "normal"

I support your decision, and you are in my prayers. I hope your period of withdrawal is manageable. You'll get through it and be better off in the end!
I tried to explain to a couple of my friends why antidepressants are bad news last night but they had none of it. I couldn't even get to explain my stance.

Take your time stepping off of them. I took zoloft for a couple years before i finally said fuck this. i couldn't take the way it made me feel, so grey and emotionless. I've been having pretty good luck handling my depression myself, after so many years of it you learn healthy ways to cope besides filling your body with drugs that make you feel like shit. Best of Luck!

ya, ive defended them a lot before now, when it just struck me that theyre shitty
all my friends plus several members of the shroomery have repeatedly tried to dissuade me from them, and i guess it finally sunk in
but im scared, cause the last time i missed my meds for about a week i almost brokle up with my gf, who i love dearly, and i almost fucked my whole life over right there, and thats really the only reason ive continued taking them
its like nicotine but 100x worse...

Well, sounds like you got the right idea this time with slowly tapering off them as opposed to just stopping cold-turkey. I've never had to deal with withdrawals from any substance, and I hope I never have to.
Keep us informed with how it goes... we'll let you know if you're about to make any stupid decisions

Yeah, cold turkey is not the way to go as you discovered. SSRIs have to be taken up gradually and one needs to come off them gradually as well. The body's got to adjust its natural chemistry. It takes a little time.

think 2 weeks between reductions would be a better idea then?

I don't know, I'm no expert. I would recommend checking out the radio interview with the doc.

Good luck man A lot of docs are just pushers for the pharmaceutical industry. I've been on and off SSRIs for the past 7 years. Last winter I went to see a shrink for depression and anxiety, he labeled me bipolar, and put me on so many meds I cant count. He switched me around from prozac, lexapro, wellbutrin, effexor, zoloft, lamictal (mood stabilizer), seroquel for sleeping issues, I was so medicated I couldn't think straight but still felt like shit. He never even talked to me either, a nurse would come in and ask how I was feeling, make a new recommendation for a different drug, and he'd come in and sign the prescription. I eventually told him to get fucked, and found a different shrink. He told me my old one was a quack, got me off the drugs, and we did therapy sessions using cognitive brain therapy (retraining the way you think) instead of psychodynamic (drugs and the 'how are you doing?' type talk) therapy. Fuck the drugs, don't let them use you as a guinea pig. We are currently living in the biggest drug experiment ever conceived. I'm sure you can do it man, as long as you come off slowly. Get your hear rate up a couple times a week too man! Get that cardio going, it'll do you good!

i love how the doctors forget to inform you on so many things
like how in many cases, these "anti-depressants" actually cause more depression
i know someone who died because he ran out of his anxiety medicine....when your body becomes very very dependent off something, and then that something is taken away, i guess a seizure is 1 outcome.
