Voacanga Africana
    #8035675 -

The internet, supposedly the large compilation of information known to mankind, has failed me. I can't find enough information on this strange, yet enticing, African tree. And i even searched Erowid, which only provided a few trip reports.
So, I decided to come here for help.

I want to know how to grow this plant, the effects of this plant, and pretty much anything there is to know about this plant.

from seed, grow it pretty much like growing coffee (they are distantly related, i think)... mold can be a problem from seed...
the seeds contain mostly tabersonine...
the mature plants have significan amounts of tabernanthine & voacangine (& related compounds...) (closely related to the illegal (in USSA) ibogaine) in the root & esp. rootbark...
as for the foliage & aboveground stem material, i dunno...prolly something there...
there is some lit available online if'n ya poke around...
the straight vinegar extraction & basification of the ground roots may be the way to go for a nice crude mixed FB alkaloid powder...
the seeds & the rootbark are available commercially...
it could be a very pretty houseplant, but greenhouse(esp. in the north) may be safer...
i have heard of good results with doing cuttings from leaf... & air-layering should work on mature plants if you like cloning that way...
good luck with your project...

The seeds are a pain in the butt to germinate. They can take up to nine months. You'll need to presterilize them in a mild peroxide solution, then scarify them before planting. Sow them in sand and alternate between wet and dry periods.
