Testing the Power of the Bigma (50-500mm lens) with a 2x Teleconverter

I'm bored, so I messed around today to see how well my lens wouldl work. I got off work, grabbed my gear, and took this shot of a coyote. It's blurry, he's running across the field in low light so I was tracking him.



I know it's a little low for the quality, but consider this. Here's a map of the area I was at. The red X is where I'm standing, it's about 400 feet above (in elevation, not actual distance) the field below it. The coyote is in the circled area. So he's further away than if we were at the same height.

that's not a bad shot given the range and the faact that the 2x converter reduces
the amount of light gathered, I took a few pics of coyotes in my garden a couple
years ago, instead uf using the lens to get closer, I managed to get within 50
feet before the wind shifted and they spooked on my scent

Is that lens image stabilized? How much does a 50-500mm lens run you?

non stabilized, but pentax has released two bodies (The K10D and the K20D, the 20D isn't released yet, it's out in march, and will have even more advanced internal IS) that have Internal Stabilization.  The sensor itself has gyrators. :smile:


The lens cost a grand.  :o
