What type of falcon is this?
    #7994265 - 02/07/08 10:39 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

It's the size of a robin or dove or quail.  Got this photo with my new 500mm telephoto lens.

I don't know much about birds. :o

I'd have said the same thing, because it's the only falcon I know of, except I know that peregrines are the size of a large crow, this little guy was the size of a robin.

It's definitely a bird of prey. I think it mainly feeds on sparrows and field mice. :o

That, my friend, is a falcon punch.

In all serious though, nice shot.

looks like a kestrel to me. Peregrines got black bared feathers across the chest. Notice the bands on the head Kestrels have the bands. Peregrines have a gray caped head and grizzly feathers. Kestrels are red while Peregrines are are gray.

this vid shows it browsing for prey to hovering still mid air to going terminal velocity straight at the ground.

Kind of reminds me of a book called Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
