Egg Incubator.
    #7977897 - 02/04/08 02:32 PM (15 years, 11 months ago)

I have an egg incubator that was given to me, and though I would really love to raise some chickens, I live in the burbs and my HOA would surely sell my house from under me if I did..

I'd really like to raise some birds for release, and I was thinking I could do this with quail since the eggs are easy to obtain, they are precocial birds and since quail numbers are dwindling in our area, but further researchs says that success rates are only about 3% when releasing raised quail to the wild since they can't fly well, don't hunt food well, aren't really afraid of anything and generally return to the area they were raised.

Then I considered doves. But not really sure if this is a possibility either. I'd just like to do something nice for the bird population since the fawking stray cats are causing their numbers to decline.

Does anyone know of any type of birds that can be artificially hatched and later realeased?

Can a mod move this post to the Gardening forum? I may get some responses there. I don't want to create a duplicate thread.

kinda funny these home owners associations and stuff, most arent aware that many states have laws that say you can keep several chickens or honey bees or what ever, check with your department of agriculture.

quail are pretty noisy, if you want to piss someone off, get peacocks

just raise alligators, and whatever ones you don't release you can make some pimpin boots out of

Well, I guess I could at least then have a steady hatchery of chickens to feed the gators.
