Make a list every day.
Do the hard stuff first.
You'll feel awesome at the end of the day if you cross everything off. You will feel crappy when you chicken out. That will be your motivation.

i have a piece of paper that says "quit being lazy, bitch" hanging over my comp. I wrote it when i was sober, and now when i get lazy I know that my sober self is smarter - so i listen to it.

I rip a toe nail off, think about how much it hurts, and say to my self I will rip another off if this shit doesn't get done.

Motivation really doesn't exist. It's not some commodity you can have or not have.
It's an abstract concept, applied to people once they've accomplished things.
Do stuff or don't do stuff. Motivation is not a prerequisite for action.

I don't think that's true. It is not as simple as doing or not doing stuff. When I don't feel like doing something it will not happen but when I am interested in something and like doing something I am motivated to do it and chances are it will happen. Motivation may be an abstract concept but it really is something that can be there or not. And finding a way to motivate yourself for stuff you know you should do but really don't want to do for some reason or other is something I want to be able to do.

motivation is a concept that is either used to define the ignition of one's accomplishments or as a simple excuse to be lazy *i have no motivation, therefore...*
in the latter case you would need to ask yourself why you're making an excuse for yourself.

Believe it or not, you don't have to be interested or inspired by something to do it. You just have to stand up and do it. Interest and inspiration are helpful incentives, but they are not necessary. I found your choice of words interesting: "it will not happen but when I am interested in something and like doing something I am motivated to do it and chances are it will happen." What does chance have to do with it? It almost sounds as if you believe that whether you do it or not is out of your hands, and your success or failure is only a function of your motivation level.

Indeed, and there are many ways that can be gone about to align one's self with these winds so to speak.
*Just do it* is one popular method. For others who don't prefer such a radical technique, they may want to try to externalize their goals in the form of a drawing, or a short note for example, and then move themselves into the direction of these visions. Introspection is another state in which one can weed out any flawed presumptions and hindering beliefs that restrict intention moving into action..
Ah, there's so many possibilities, but without a CHOICE, you're simply going nowhere.
