Black Ring Means Contam?

I recentely checked a friends pod to discover a slight musky smell coming from the edge of the pod, not necesarily one of the cakes. All of the cakes indifivudally smelled fine, but one of them produced a mushroom up to the point where you can see white under the cap, but just a bit. It had a black ring on the lower half of the cap (still oddly shaped) and the top half was brown. I left it overnight and it remained the same half size/shape and the black ring stayed half.. Does this black ring and halted growth mean this cake is contaminated and so is that mushroom?
Can anyone reccomend How long of a bleach dunk and then a normal dunk for rehydration do I need to try and fix things? We were also going to try and bleach the whole pod as the musk smell was in it once before when we grew out cobweb mold or some musky whispy mold by misstake...

That's the thing, I notice nothing besides some of the cakes having whispy white stuff on the bottom touching the rocks, I smell it and it smells like mycelium. The whispy stuff is on all cakes but on one or possibly two it is a bit more whispy and extended off the cake. It all smells mushroomy. I washed the entire pod and rocks with a 2% S.H bleach solution (getting normal bleach today) and didn't think the mold would return. I believe it could be living in the water of the pod beneath and I am smelling it from the small gap, however the smell and the black ringed shroom make me want to bleach EVERYTHING.
Any suggestions?

That musky smell is bothering me. I am pretty sure it is living in the pod from months ago, so i guess I need to bleach the pod itself...
Dunking the cakes wouldn't hurt though, how long should they be in 1:100 bleach water for? and how long in some spring water? should it be cold?
I'd appreciate it if someone would tell me which is the right way to go about it.

Thanks for the tips... The cakes are really crumbled 1/2 cakes that were in 5oz dixie cups cased with verm...
The black ring turned into the whole cap, guess it was a big abhort or something... (Can they grow an inch or two?)
I am contemplating the best way to dissasemble the pod for cleaning, it is hard to remove the rocks sometimes unless by hand or scoop, and that musky smell just bothers me greatly, the water beneath is full of it.
