there's an actual scientific word/whatever for this type situation but i totally forgot what it was. basically states that in time of great danger (present but distant, like the bystanders in the video) that you're really really likely to sit back and see how it pans out rather than try and solve it

He was focused entirely on the girl and I doubt that he is very proficient with a knife. Someone should have whacked him on the head with a blunt object instead of pulling him off. They took too long also.
