Hello and welcome to the thirteenth official composition contest. My goal is to assist people in pushing their compositional skills farther along the path. Having a deadline is sometimes the perfect ingredient needed for creating an awesome sounding piece.
Rules and Contest guidelines: *Contestants will be presented with a photo. They have 1 week to recored an original composition to express that photo by means of moving air molecules. (music) Any genre! (please keep it original.. no pulling out some old recording.)
*The little criteria for the actual composition is .MP3 file format and its recommend to keep the track shorter then 4 minutes.
*Submit your final MP3 to: xxxx It must be in before the end of the day on the due date for it to be posted as a candidate for voting. (When you email me your track, please name it and let me know your USERNAME)
*The final vote will take place in a voting thread. Once I upload all the tracks I will set up a poll. A NOTE: The order which will be listed is solely based on who sends in their tracks first. If you get it done mid week.. send it in! The people voting might become a bit hasher hearing the 5th down the list. (try and be the 1st or 2nd on the list) Only the title of the tracks will be posted to make sure no bias is involved in the vote.
*The winner is picked on account of the number of votes they have at 10am (pacific time)of the day proclaimed the end. If there is a tie, we let votes go on for another 24 hours. The winner gets to pick the next picture. Common sense guidelines when picking photos. Keep it as different as possible then the last photo. (EX: Nature, the city, human face, abstract art, animals, any other kind of art, scenes... ect)
Thanks for reading and good luck composing.
This picture was hand picked by ZoooftheMoon. Very nice feel...we finally got some new ground to explore. Can't wait to hear what comes out of that house.

Audacity, musical instruments... crappy microphone (that's why mine's gonna sound like shit)
You could use Fruity Loops Studio, probably the best composition program out there.

I've used Cool Edit 2.1, a 10 watt crate bass amp, epiphone electric guitar and a crappy logitech webcame/mic combo to record the sound.

I can't afford a home studio
But as long as I can record Once my stupid mic didn't want to connect with vista. Then it worked 2 months later, never knew why. God I hate computers.

You don't need to afford a home studio.
I can't either.
Do you play an instrument? Did your computer come with some sort of microphone/webcam? Then that's all you need.
This is what I've used to record every single one of my tracks, save my newest one:

Hardly meant to record instruments, but it gets the job done.
And for some reason I use something similiar to this to plug my guitar into(only this is the bt15 and mine is one step down, the bt10):

When I want distortion I use a boss metal zone pedal.
Download a torrent downloader like utorrent and download some software. For a beginner, I recommend cool edit/adobe audition.
I have recordings from when I didn't even have software(I used windows sound record thingy) and I had an even crappier mic:

No need for expensive or elaborate setups for this contest my friend Use what you have, have fun with it, and most important.........make sure you get a track in this time around!!! hehe

I got some tips for you guys. If you want good quality recordings from electric guitars/acoustic electric/keyboards, or whatever you happen to be using a microphone for, if its electronic in anyway(eg: uses an amplifier) chances are it has a headphones out jack on the amplifier. All you have to do is run the headphones out directly into your computer via either the Line in jack or the Mic in jack on the computer. You can buy 1/4" to normal headphone jack adapters like anywhere, or you can make your own by splicing cables.
You will have a VERY significant quality increase in your recordings. Any preamplified instruments like a keyboard or most acoustic electric guitars you can run directly from the input on them into the computer. Non preamplified instruments like an electric guitar you need to run through an amplifier first, or the signal is too weak to work with. Try it out. Much better results then using very low quality computer microphones.
