College drives me fucking crazy
    #7823037 -

I'm looking at all the gen ed classes I need to take, and I already know that shit! Infact, I've relearned it over and over in highschool (most of my learning was like in the 4th grade. Since then it's been recap). I can't find the tests I need to take, so I can just get the credit and not take the whole goddamn class over again. From what I looked up online, you have to pay for them too. WHAT THE FUCK!? Why would you have to PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU KNOW? Does that make sense? I know my basic biology, so I should give them $70 to show I do on a piece of paper. Or better yet, pay $600 to sit around having some undergrad teaching me the same bullshit over the course of a few months. Okay, that makes fucking sense.

BTW All morning I've been trying to call OSU because they lost my loan check they were supposed to send back to the lender, but the phone cuts me off everytime I connect to the right office. That's FUCKING PATHETIC. A big expensive money grubbing school can't even afford a working phone system? Let alone mail a check? Pathetic..

Some colleges (many actually) will let you "TEST OUT" of a class. If you feel you know it all, look into it. Talk to your advisor. It won't count towards your GPA, but it will probably let you roll through some credits much more quickly.

That's what I just read, but my colleges have it buried deep somewhere and I'll probably have to pay for it.

That's my complaint though. Why retake them again? There's no point.

Are you kidding me? So far college has been a fucking breeze save for math, and this one lit class.

Psychology 101? Easy. Sociology? VERY EASY. Microeconomics? Easy. and so on.

Gen eds are mainly taught beforehand and it's usually just a bunch of review.

If I do the typical college kid thing and take the classes I need without testing out I'll be taking shit like

Macroeconomics (I already know it.)
Biology 101 (Know it. Saw friend's homework, it's easy)
Basic Human Nutrition (studied all this on my own time)
Basic Computer Systems (easy as fuck)
and so on

It's all just a big waste.

Honestly, I'd just take the fucking classes.

Many colleges and employers believe that college courses are more rigorous than high school courses even if they cover relatively the same material (sometimes this is the case--mostly in Math and Science gen eds).

It also shows them that you are well-rounded and can go beyond your field.

Think of them as GPA buffers for when you get to Jr and Sr. year and the shit is harder.

Trust me I smoked pot all Freshman year daily and pulled straight 4.0s. Now I'm down to a 3.7 because of harder classes (but I still got a scholarship despite a C in a class I needed that was HARD).

Of course those are fucking easy... You see the words 'basic' and '101' attached to the courses? That means they are easy.

Thats how college works... Your first year as a freshmen you take the easy classes. Then, as you go on you take harder ones.

But even though you say you already know this stuff, I guarantee you there will still be opportunities for you to learn in these classes. Doesnt matter if you already aced them in high school or even another college. You now have the opportunity to learn different nuance and ways of thinking about the subject because it will be taught different.

How much you learn doesnt depend on the name of the class. It depends on your attitude going in, and what you actually do and read during the semester. Once again, you will still have opportunities to learn (If that is what you want).

Well I want to learn, but the same shit over again? Especially if I'm paying for it, that's ridiculous. I don't like the idea of wasting time either, when I can actually be learning something new and getting out a little earlier (of course testing out doesn't give you credit hours).

I want my BA, but at the same time I don't want to sit around bullshitting doing not much.

If you want harder classes, get the BS

Where did you take these classes before...  High School?  Self-Taught?  If thats the case it will definitely be different and you will come out stronger than going in.  I tutor kids all the time who took "College Algebra" in high school.  When I get to them, they are struggling 1 to 2 steps below college algebra at introductory algebra.  Or if you took them in college and now have to take them again, then you just have to sit through it.

Really, it was the same way for me in the beginning of college.  It seemed slow.. I wasnt taking my major classes just other bull shit classes.  But toward the end, when you are taking your hard major classes it get more rewarding.

You'll probably learn a little something new if you take them.

Even if you've taken the subject and mastered it, each professor will usually teach in his/her own unique way, which may mae yout hink about something in a different manner.

Middle school, high school, self-taught... Math is the only thing I had a hard time on. Everything else has been complete review. In my two college composition classes, all we did was write essays on articles we read and learn MLA both of which I already knew. Sure, I met new people and all, but was that worth $2,000 and hours of annoying homework? I don't think so.

You don't agree that it's bullshit?

dood, its fucking COLLEGE. Every single university in the US is out for one thing, YOUR MONEY. Of course it's bullshit! I graduated with an associates in networking technologies. I go to a four year school. The wont accept over 1/2 of my credits. My 3.1 GPA drops to a 1.9 in their eyes. So, not only is my average shit now, but i had to retake all the classes i took in community college. Not only that but i had to take intro computer classes, a computer competency test, and other various basic PC bullshit when I HAVE A FUCKING NETWORKING DEGREE. Not only that but i paid for every one of those classes, paid for the books, got stuck doing hours of homework and taking tests. Ugh, i feel you man, but if you want that degree and can't test out you just have to grin and bear it.

You're complaining because you have a wonderful opportunity to pad your grades?
Are you a freshman?
And are you referring to THE OSU?

Yes. I don't believe in wasting time and money to get an A. I can get that by other means.

No, I'm a sophomore.

Yes, THE OSU.

Well, you're gonna have to succumb to their money grubbing ways.
Just talk to your TA or your prof after your first day of class (I'm assuming you'll get all of your first classes done tomorrow and Friday so you won't even have to wait that long) and ask them what, if anything, you can do to test out. They'll know.

Where do you live it, if you don't mind me asking?

This is why a lot of people go to community college for their first two years... not because they don't have the grades to get into a 4 year... but because they'd rather spent 1/2 the money on the bullshit classes.

Consider going part time to OSU and going part time to the closest comm college for the BS classes and transfering them over.

Just be prepared and make sure the credits transfer.

For a lot of majors, the school/institution you attend doesn't matter.
