Did you know..ants live in some plants

Example

Acacia plant:

Ants live in the thorns
the plant has evolved extrafloral nectaries especially for the ants
beltian bodies have evolved, which secrete lipids from the leaf tips
the plant provides food and shelter
the ants provide defense against scale pests..
if the ants are killed, the plants are devoured in no time.
yet the ants can't survive without the plant.

so cool

also..

myrmecochory = some plants produce elaiosomes on seeds, they are cones of nutrients that ants like so they bring the seeds to the colonies (the colonies are high in N so they decompose and make good soil)..once the colony dies, the seed sprouts after the soil is right....

mermecophytes = plants housing ants

what else..

skunk cabbage produces heat and a musky smell to attract flies for pollination that usually enjoy rotting animals etc..weee
