gums and wisdom teeth

so, I've been cutting my lower wisdom teeth for about the last five years. they haven't pushed through however. I've been able to feel the bumps of the crowns of one of the teeth for a few years now.
All of a sudden, though, there is this flap of skin (gum) that has either moved, swollen, or come loose as it feels sort of like a loose tooth when it moves around in my mouth.
grains accumulate back in this crevice, which I extract after eating, but I don't think I could've worn this skin up the way it is.
I'm really hoping someone has had this happen before or they could tell me if this is a sign of a wisdom tooth getting ready to break the skin. there's no pain, but it doesn't feel right, if that makes any sense, and I don't want to accidentally remove the skin while eating or cleaning my teeth, which could lead to infection

Do you know if you have to have yours taken out or not?

if they come in, they'll have to be taken out as I have some permanent wiring along the back of my teeth to keep them from shifting as is
otherwise, not that I've ever been told

hmm, they told me mine weren't gonna come in right and I had to get all four taken out. I've had a handful of oral surgery's and the wisdom teeth was by far the easiest. I never really noticed anything like that though. They just kind of poked through

Hey. Well your wisdom teeth might just have no space for popping out, your jaws could be too tight. I know because I had that happen on my lower jaw and I had to remove both of them. It really didn't hurt that bad, but you need to pay extra attention because their roots can be very strong or in anchor shape and small complications could occur. Nothing serious though.

I'm not so much worried about my wisdom teeth as I am this loose flap of skin above the tooth that just recently became this way

Yes, and that skin could be like that exactly because your wisdom teeth don't have enough room to pop up. Anyways, you could try using a local antiseptic.

I remember having a 'flap' of skin when one of my wisdom teeth was popping out. Quite annoying because I'd end up subconsciously playing with it with my tongue. I must've looked like a complete prat.
I also kept biting my cheek inadvertedly (which I made a few threads about) but it's all good now.

hmm, so from your experience, it's probably best to at least get it looked at
and to think I've eluded the dentist for two and a half years

Oh, no.
I didn't do anything. Left it alone and after a few weeks/month it was fine.
But if it's really irritating you then you should go to the dentist.

did the skin reduce, or did you just get used to it?
