I think it portrayed what it was trying to portray extremely well.  Executed perfectly.

Some people don't get it, or don't care for it, so they say it 'sucked'.
Some people think it's an automatic 'suck' just because Mel Gibson did it.  These people can suck my ass.  Go watch 2Fast2Furious or some other shit movie. I'm sure it'll rock your balls.

I think the cinematography was vibrant as fuck.  In my opinion, it was a great movie.  But tastes vary.

edit:  lol, didn't see that the second post was by you.  Sorry Senor, opinion still stands. :smirk:

I thought it was a good example of how a civilization collapses.

Very appropriate viewing given the state of the world today.

As for crouching tiger, I'd say you're just spoiled by the instant gratification of american movies. Movies from China and Europe will always be slow paced (for dramas), because it is their style. The drama is just portrayed in a different style.
It's like electronica vs classical music. They're both 'good' but in vastly different ways.

Another great subtitled movie is City of God.

The movie is a snoozer. because its boring.

A good drama to me is something like Happiness.

just so you don't think im being ethnocentric with my taste in film, I enjoyed farewell my concubine.

I thought it was a decent movie.  Granted, I don't like Mel Gibson as a person, and whether or not it was accurate, well--"Braveheart" isn't, either.

It's really difficult for me to watch a Tom Cruise flick anymore, given his idiotic public statements.  And I find it pretty hard to overcome Gibson's gayness for being a giant homo for "The Passion".

But, on the other hand, the "Mad Max" series was pretty cool.  And "Braveheart" is a pretty good movie.

On the other other hand, I've had "The Passion" on my HD for over a year.  I don't know how much liquor I'd need to watch that shit.  So, it just sits there on my HD.

I did'nt read this thread. however. This movie is epic. watch it. then watch it again. repeat. it's amazing and a half. its the kind of movie in witch you see something different every time you scope it. do so as many times as possible.
