I don't know TM, calling people "douche bags" on the internet for rooting for their hometown team seems a little bizarre. Should every person from every city in the world root for the Red Sox?

I like a lot of the guys on the Sox. Loved Manny since day 1 in Cleveland, wanted the Cubs to go after Lowell back in the day (almost got him too) was ES-FREAKING-STATIC that the sox "overspent" and kept Dice-K from the Yanks (thank God) and how can you root against Big Papi?

But I live a few hours from Coors field, have never been to Boston, and would love to see Todd Helton get a ring.

A Rockies championship won't happen most likely. But all things considered, how does rooting for the Rockies make me a "douche bag" ?? :shrug:

You'd have to be a douche bag to continue to think that your team has a shot, as you'd have to have been douche bag in the first place.

This applies to ApJunkie and P_T and all others who foolishly thought that the rockies had a shot against the Sox.

In all honesty, your posts this post season have been ridiculous.  You don't have to be such a sore winner - no one likes someone who rubs people's noses in their team losing.  Prior to 2004, did you like it when people ragged on the Red Sox for being the joke that they were?  It wasn't that long ago that we were "cursed" and ridiculed, and the brunt of a lot of asshole fans.  You're acting like one of those people now.  The Rockies have NEVER won a world series, and they played unbelievable this season to get to where they are right now.  The whole "I told you so" thing is extremely immature, and really just gives Red Sox fans a bad name.  Sure, it's nice that we're winning, but can't we try to remember for a second how we felt when people laughed at our beloved team?  It felt like shit.  Maybe you should show a little class instead of making gloating threads like this one. Oh, and this quote -

Does that mean you were a loser when you rooted for the Sox every year, even though they lost and broke our hearts every time?  Or, did you just become a fan in 2004, like the rest of the bandwagon jumpers?

Ah, yes, I'm a fair weather fan because I'm calling you on the fact that you're immature and rude. That makes total sense, I can see how you arrived at that conclusion. I'm a fair weather fan why, exactly? Because I sympathize with fans of teams that lose, much like we lost time and again? Or because I think that you being a sore winner is classless? Or, am I just a fair weather fan because you say so, and you're always right? Which is it?

And no, I don't feel that Rockies fans are "douche bags" for thinking that they stood a chance. I also never claimed that you didn't correctly predict this post season - just that the way you've conducted yourself while we've been victorious has been ridiculous. Even when Disturbed talked shit about the Indians beating the Sox the whole 7 games series, and told me I wouldn't get to use my game 1 world series tickets, I STILL didn't rub it in when they lost game 7. It's not the way people should conduct themselves, especially when we lost for so many years.

Sound familiar? You mocking a team that has had their world series hopes all but extinguished?

Why you feel the need to make the Rockies fans feel like shit is just beyond me - but I certainly didn't get personal in my post that I directed towards you. You however, lashed out at me, personally, and acted like a child, as you always do. As it says in the forum rules, you're not supposed to attack the "person". Since your entire post was aimed at the "people" and you called them douche bags, I can only hope that you'll be punished accordingly once OMR gets his notification messages.

Thanks for being so logical Liz, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who knows that one's moral worth isn't dictated by the performance of 9 complete strangers in an arbitrary game.

I was at the first rockies game ever played. I was sitting in the stands when Eric Young walked into the box, swung at the FIRST pitch ever thrown in Denver, and hit a homerun. I watched the All-star game at coors field, was there in person when Todd helton hit his 300th homer. I have 15 years of memories of going to baseball games since the age of 5 with my dad, many times on my birthday (half day of skiing, and straight to the ballpark). I've literally been in the stand for hundreds of Rockies games to date, This year alone I went to over 25, and didn't see them lose a single time all season. In addition, we've been an under .500 team now for 12 out of the last 14 years. But towards the end of the season when everything was looking bleak again they started pulling it off. Day after day the newspapers reported the rockies winning, and we slowly crept up towards the top of the standings, as our hopes rose too.... by the end of the season we were 1 game back, praying our luck would hold out.
We were ONE strike from being eliminated from the postseason when the padres fell apart and lost the game. While playing them in the Wildcard game, we lost the lead in the 8th, and then again in the 13th, but we came back! WE CAME BACK from 2 runs down in the 13th inning to win it and go postseason, and then continued to win 7 IN A ROW (or 21 out of 22) to make it to the world series for the first time in team history.

So after all of that, I'm supposed to turn my back on them and cheer for the Sox just because they're the better team? We knew the sox were better. Hell, with a budget like that, how can they NOT be good (:lol:), but I'm not going to turn on my hometown team, my childhood love, just because we don't have as much money, or as many superstars as you do.
I'm proud, because our hometown heroes, who used to be the laughing stock of the country, turned around this year and produced an MVP, a Rookie Of the Year, multiple Golden Gloves, and a World Series ring.

So I'm going to the game tonight, and I'm sitting in the below-freezing weather cheering myself hoarse for the boys who've finally given us something to cheer about.
