So far this season iv put in 100+ hours into finding cyanescens and still haven't found a single one :x I must have searched every park, garden, and well off neighbor hood within a 30 mile radius to no avail. I've found picture perfect habitats for them, fresh mulch topped with alder chips, but i haven't seen so much as a pin! Any advice for a disheartened hunter?

Become one with the mushroom. Learn it's language, and they will call out to you. Frustration is a natural step in learning process.

Keep looking!
Best advice I can give is...
A) Try to find smaller parks where not a lot of hunters have checked.
B) Check areas where grass meets chips extra carefully. Cyans love to hide in bushes in these areas.
C) The season has just begun. It won't peak for another 2 or 3 weeks. You still plenty of time left.
With all this rain we've had recently, things should kick into high gear soon.
Good luck!

I know how you feel.
Just don't stress too bad about it. I've decided not to expect anything, it's a lot less stressful that way, and more realistic.

If the weather's not perfect, you just won't find them. You could spend 100 hours searching in a few weeks and BAM they're all over the place.
One trick i use is to keep heading downhill. Follow the natural gullies looking for out of the way areas where water collects, then just look out for woodchips.
Remember you don't want fresh alder chips at all. The older, sunbleached patches are what you want. If they're not in the middle of the bed check the fringes, under protection from overhanging branches of shrubs where the humidity is trapped.
