As long as the fans on the PSU and CPU work and you're not running it for too long I don't see why it should be a problem. You'll know if it's a problem when it just starts resetting from overheating.

You risk destroying the processor if it's not cooled properly.

There is a HIGH risk for blowing your processor without a fan. Even without heat paste is a bad idea.

Nah its cool. The pc will just reboot or hang if it gets to hot. Just run it for a couple of hours and see if it crashes or not. Ran a geforce card without a fan for quite some time without incident aslong as didn't play games.

I guess depends on how old the pc is. To my knowledge older ones don't have a cutoff.

Older PCs used to do different things if they were run for long without a fan/heatsink combo, especially when overclocked: Intel based machines would reboot, AMD machines would just freeze, and Cyrix...well nobody that I know ever ran a Cyrix OCed or without a fan, and if anyone did I'd like a copy of the pic of what used to be your desk

That's for computers in the mid-90's...before that you generally didn't even need a CPU fan, and sometimes not even a heatsink, and after that (late 90's to present) you NEED a heatsink and probably a fan too.

When the Athlon and PIII came out, they were supposed to include circuits to cut power in case of a fan/heatsink failure. Thing is, the AMD devices didn't work. Take the heatsink off of a running PIII and it will crash in about a second or so. Try that on a P4, and the computer won't even crash....it just keeps going chugging along at a lower clock rate (the P4's heat circuitry is nice).

Try that on an Athlon (before they fixed it) and you'll have the CPU burst into flame

But that should be fixed now

Here's a video Tom's Hardware made of just such a test:

Are you talking about a case fan or a processor fan?

There is a HUGE difference in between the two.
