    #7501553 - 10/09/07 12:47 PM (16 years, 3 months ago)

sorry if i put this in the wrong forum, if i did somebody move it.

im unable to find a harddrive to ge tthe magnets out of for a stirrer, would 2 of the hardware stores most powers magnets work, or do they HAVE to be out of a hard drive.

any magnet that has pull from 2 inches away will do the job. harddrive magnets are just a easy source for them.

do a search on e bay for rare earth magnets .. 4.50 plus shipping ..
or go to a dollar store and look for magnets .. I built my mag stir for yeast starters for brewing with the e bay magnets work great

make sure that the magnets that you might by from a hardware store or whatnot are strong enough though. i recently built my own magnetic stirrer and used some magnets from radio shak and they do NOT attract my stir rod very well

Have you tried Hobby Lobby? or some other comparable store? I bought mine there and my stirrer rocks! I cut in in half with my dremel. I used one half for the stirrer and the other half for the stir rod.

This is the magnet.

This is the vortex it created during a test run.
