which is cheaper - running 2-3 space heaters throughout the house, or running the furnace?
We're not looking forward the the higher utilities over the winter, after having them nearly free all summer.

gas central heating in the long run is way cheaper than electricity. But the initial installation cost is a tad expensive

2 -3 space heaters is getting expensive if you run them on max all the time.
However, for those who dwell alone, one space heater in your room during nighttime will save you money if you turn off the central air.
I know I didn't answer your question directly, but I think we need more specifications as to the amount of energy those 2-3 space heaters require, and what time of heater you have for central air.

depends where you live i guess. here gas is much cheaper than electricity...which blows, because the house i live in now is electric only, has no gas lines run to it.

i forsee gas prices rising. I think they rise every year. Im not sure if oil has any part in gas heating but if it does that would be one reason to stay away from it.
i would guess them oil filled electric heaters would be great, have one for every room your in alot, but only run them when your in it.
and some form of a burning stove is a must!
they have corn, wood pellets, wood, ect ect, huge money savers, and alot of them you can cook on

here in texas we have LOTS of oil and natural gas wells, i dont know if that really makes it any cheaper for gasoline or not. Right now it is 2.63 a gallon, not too bad since i drive a small car. They also burn natural gas to make electricity at a lot of power plants.

It's cool here in Texas, I'm excited about my power bill going down because I won't have to run the a/c.

Yeah it's starting to get a lot colder here as well.
I'd dislike it, but you know what cold means? Snow!
Can't really afford to spend much on heating right now so I mostly bundle up and I can't stand sleeping in a warm room anyways.
