Tryn to install a new hard drive? Please help.

Ok so my hard drive went out in my laptop. ordered a new one put it in and now it says on dos mode "insert system diskette and press enter" what is the system diskette? its not the recovery cds cause I tried those.

I think that means the disk with your version of windows on it.. I'm not 100 on that though.

Yeah it wants a bootable diskette (aka Restore CD, OS CD, Recovery CD, etc..). Instead of letting it get to that screen on its own, follow the startup prompt to enable Boot Mode. Choose Boot From CD and you'll be able to reload the OS onto the new HDD.

i'm not too sure on what you need for the hdd, but bootdisk.com is a good site

Its a new HD so he obviously needs to install some flavor of OS. I would suggest Ubuntu.
