salvia at Wally World???
    #744736 - 07/14/02 05:33 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

ok so I went in my local wal mart the other day and they had some plants standing in front of the cash register. So I look at them for a minute and I am like "Damn that looks like salvia". then I check the label and It says salvia. I am not so sure that it is salvia divinorum though and that is what I would like to know. the leaves seem to be more of a heart shape then the pics on erowid. also the stem seems to be thinner. Could this just be from environmental factors or is this another type of salvia. and if it is a different type of salvia is there any chance of it containing salvinorin a/b. It was only 1.97 so I am not out much if it is not psychoactive. but if it is then I am going to go buy a BUNCH more.

thank in advance

salvia belongs to the mint family. all the plants in the mint family have "salvia" in the beginning of their scientific names. however, only salvia "divinorum" contains salvinorin (the shit that gets you high). I just doubt that walmart would have a hard to find tropical south american plant, requiring different grow conditions. BUT, regular salvias can be great plants to grow too, they have many different varieties and colorful flowers.

try and post some pics of your plants. It would be hard to say without seeing them. Salvia is the genus that simpley means "sage" and like the other guy said there are tons of plants in that genus. You need the specific species "divinoum".

Actually Cali, there are many other plants in the mint family without salvia in their name, such as mentha.

but most likely it's either one of the many ornamental salvias or it's garden salvia, taste a leaf, if it tastes like a table spice it's garden salvia. it's definately not divinorum.

Salvia Divornum (Diviners Sage) rarely produces seeds, and is not sold in seed packets. Whatever you found is just a garden salvia. They are not the same as the Salvia that gets you high, although they do contain thujones which will produce a similar high to wormwood.
