Jim Thome is a White Sock, or a White Sox?

Just curious how you guys would say it. I imagine its the same for Boston...

I've always said a person who plays for the White Sox is a White Sock, but there is a certain White Sox commentator who always refers to players as "White Sox" as well.

For example...

"Paul Konerko has been a White Sox for 5 years"

He ALWAYS does this. It seems to be blatant misuse of a term, but apparently its quite common.

I either say hes a white sock, or hes a player for the white sox... tho i guess hes right saying a white sox too, tho i agree that it sounds completely wrong.

The way I came to a conclusion on this for myself is, how would an old school Bostonian say it?

I can't see anyone saying in that drawl, "Yaz was a great Sox".

BTW, too bad a great guy like Thome won't get the love he deserves. He was a hammer in his day. Is it just me, or doesn't Ryan Howard and Thome have the same overall vibe at the plate.
