WHy is the bassist always on the left?

From audience perspective.

It seems like an arbitrary decision, but almost every single band had the bass player on the left and the keyboards on the right.
Think back to all the concerts you have been to, except The Police or Primus.... wasnt the bass player always on the left?

I don't find that the bassist is always on the left. My roommates' band is soundchecking right now and the bassist is on the right. And in Stop Making Sense, the Talking Heads doc, Tina Weymouth is on the right...and when Phish plays Mike Gordon is on the right.

Also the band Elefant - their bassist is always on the right.

the point of a good band is, that they reflect the audience as best as they can, the end.

well, sure there are exceptions, but I would say that 80% of all bands have their bass player on the left.
You think something so arbitrary would be 50-50 or 60-40 due to superstition.

I think i's about 50/50. I know alot of bands that thebassist is on the right.

no they werent all on the left. sometimes the guitar player will be on the left and the bassist on the right. i dont think its a problem. the drummer is always in the back and the singer is always in the middle. its just the way the positions of a band usually are. and it doesnt have anything to do with the music; it doesnt matter.
