My HD set-up doesn't look right...I think

I am on my 3rd HDTV right now. It is a Samsung TX-T3092wh. I have DirecTV HD service and a HD tuner connected with their cheesey HDMI cable. All of my other TV's I could tell a huge difference in quality just by flipping from the regular channel to the HD channel, now I can barely see a change at all. It seems that with this set-up the difference is there just not as huge of a difference. I just got this TV and got the HD service a few days before hand. Before this I used the local cable company for HD which I think might be part of the problem. When watching HD it gets very grainy when the picture moves fast. Would that be due to the crappy HDMI cable or just the receiver? Just wondering other peoples opinions that have Directv. Also, when I switch from 720i to 1080i on the receiver in don't notice a change at all in quality(yes, my TV supports 1080i so I know that's not the issue). Any input or advice is greatly appreciated.

HDMI carries digital signals, so as long as the cable is within spec, it shouldn't make a bit of difference on video quality. If I were to make a guess, I would guess that the signal you are being sent from the HD service is crap or there is a problem with the receiver/decoder. I've not played around with HD stuff, but am basing this off of what I know about video encoding (and your description of grainy picture during fast motion).

In addition to what Seuss said, it could also be that you aren't getting a strong signal from the dish because of alignment. Go into the setup menu and find the signal meter of the of the different feeds (3 for HD I believe) and make sure they're all at good levels. If not, you may need to realign your dish.

Oh, the other thing I just thought of is that since you are on DirectTV, all the channels are digital and much better quality than what you got on cable. Therefore, you aren't going to see as big of a difference between them and HD though it should still be noticeable.

That's kind of what I am thinking. I can defiantly tell the difference between satellite and cable. The regular channels thru satellite are 10x better than they were with cable. Especially since I am using a HDMI cable as apposed to RGB's as well.
