working...
somehow distracted by tumultuous events of "real life" around here...
& comp at home picked up a nasty virus...
~
the book... ya, TV seems awfully important to these loopy kalifonians...
jump back 1000 years...
i figured vineland would be about vikings discovering america ... well... i guess not... but sailors (& eventually settlers) from norse greenland sailed south and west to "markland" (land of trees/forests) and to vinland (land of grapevines)... wood and fruit being valuable commodities to the scandinavian settlers of the greenland colonies...
on the cover of the hardbound copy of pynchon's novel, a picture of slopes denuded by the lumber companies' clearcutting policies... so we as consumers can have newpapers, toiletpaper, cardboard boxes... all the good things trees can give us ...
maybe i can knock off a few more chapters as i re-read this sketchy pic of amerikan culture this weekend...
hope you all are well...

no rush for anyone- im still churning around idears since i finished- i think one of the reasons it swept me up was because it was so regional- its my neck of the woods. (nor cal)

Hey guys. My computer has been in the shop so please excuse my absence.

I am anxious to get started on the discussion but am not opposed to pushing the date back one last time. The ABSOLUTE deadline for having finished the book is 7/14.

PGF was going to lead the discussion. I don't know if that is still the plan. He has experience, plus this book was his suggestion, so I figure him best qualified. One week from today.

He said that he will post some questions and then go from there. We will also have an IRC discussion and probably post the log for those unwilling to download mIRC. (If you need help setting up mIRC, send me a pm and I'll walk you through it).

OK then.
