Guitar question.
    #7309670 -

I swapped a 1/4 of mids for an electric guitar with amp... (its a squier strat; but they still retail for more than a 1/4).

I just snapped the E and B string, yet I have a pack of steel acoustic strings lying around..
Can I restring it with these or do I need to buy electric guitar strings?

you can, but they are too heavy. it would be best to go buy a set of lights to put on it. that way, you wont need to have the neck adjusted in the near future.

I would not do that. Acoustic strings and electric strings have different tension levels. You CAN put acoustic strings on an electric but it will sound weird. But, NEVER put electric strings on an acoustic (you're likely to rip your bridge off of the guitar).

yes, no no on the acoustics. you don't want to fuck up your neck. just got splurge the 5 bucks or whatever for some #10s on that squier.

All guitars have a truss rod in them (a piece of metal) that stops the neck from warping. There is no way to fuck up your neck with string tension (even with incorrect strings). The only pitfalls I see are bad sound and ripping off bridges on acoustic guitars.

I usually just buy fender strings anyway they're for acoustic or electric

Yeah acoustic strings are heavier, higher tension strings, and they don't sound good through electric pickups. Electric strings are cheap, go get some.

that isnt accurate. generally acoustic strings are a heavier gauge and, therefor, need more tension to get up to the correct pitch. electric guitar strings on an acoustic dont hurt anything... they are just thin sounding and very slinky feeling.

Doh...you're right. I was thinking of nylon-string acoustic guitars.

Me too; I wouldn't use anything else on my acoustic . I think I'm going to have ago with fender strings though... seeing as its a [squier] strat :jamming:
