Selected a secluded lake and campground out of the 500 or so within a 3 hour radius from town and partied hard for 3 nights and 4 days.
I got out there at around 9am by myself and didn't see anyone else show up until 5pm or so. I pretty much spent that time setting(or trying) to set up camp. Set my tent up, collected some firewood, cleaned the other areas up where other people would be setting there tents up, but mostly, I spent many hours trying to put up a 30X50 foot tarp by myself because the forecast wasn't looking good.
I've done this before by myself and it isn't no easy feat. But the last camping trip, I had a campsite shielded from the wind off the lake by heavy brush. Also, the trees I used to string my tarp up nice and high had branches that I could throw my line/string over.
At this lake, the trees were all damaged by the beatle and were all spaced a decent distance away from each other, not to mention that all of their branches were 30+ feet up.
So the wind off the lake was ridiculous. I spent the better part of the day slowly but surely stringing this monster up. I was dragging my cooler all around to each tree, so I could stand on it and get extra height. After like 3 hours, I had pretty much every ring in the tarp secured. It was starting to look decent...my hard work was paying off. Now I just needed to fine tune it, put some sticks in the middle and voila! Well, that would only happen in a perfect world. A good gust of wind came off the lake, just when I was thinking such things, and all I heard was snap, crackle, pop.
The wind had only broken a few of the lines, but instead, ripped clean out of the tarp in the majority of places, leaving my tarp useless(to be tied up again anyway). The tarp was severly ripped everywhere. GRRRR.
I had also been drinking since 9am, so when that happened I was fucking choked. So I folded it back up and just said piss on it. And guess what happens the minute I put it away? A huge fucking storm starts like instantly. Extremely loud thunder, close lightning and retarded amounts of rain.
Luckily, the heavy raining only lasted 20 minutes or so.
The first night there was 9 of us. One of them brought out a chainsaw so we had craploads of good firewood. Obviously it was quite a party that night and just all around good times. For dinner we had tenderloin steaks. I went to bed at around 4am or so.
I got up at 8am and 3 people left that morning/afternoon, but we were joined by 2 more at around midnight. For breakfast we feasted on scrambled eggs, bacon and hashbrowns. This was the night I went hardest with the drinking. It was whiskey from 9am-5am. Cooked up hamburgers at one point and also some farmers sausage. Before I went to bed though, the lake was filled with the thickest fog I've ever seen, so we took the canoe out and man it was it was so crazy awesome. The lake was like glass and it just felt so surreal.
Woke up at 8am ish again, started a fire and sat around for about an hour, felt like horrible shit, but no one got up so I went back to bed. I woke up a few hours later, a bunch of people were up, and man I STILL felt like shit. Buddy got a video of me crawling out of the tent, trying to stand, feeling woozy and sitting on the picnic table. I sat there for quite awhile before I realized he was trying to take my picture or something(didn't know he was recording). I couldn't even muster enough energy to talk barely. I was just shaking my head at him, kinda throwing my arms at him basically telling him to fuck off. I watched the video later and have to admit it was pretty damn funny. He's determined to put it online that fucker.
the majority of people left later that day, after hitting up a tarzan swing on the lake, and it was only me and the 2 others(the ones that showed up at midnight the night before). I took it easy that night drinking only a limited amount of beer. Some other campers came over to our site and we found they had a guitar player among them, so we all ripped out the acoustics around the fire and played for quite awhile.
Came home yesterday evening SOOOO tired...I slept all the way through until now.
As quite standard for camping trips, the end result: 1. I never want to look at a hotdog again 2. I don't want to drink again
Just wanted to share. I had a great weekend The guy who got that video of me has tons of pictures that I will get off him.
