Limewire-whats the big deal?

People say it causes viruses, etc etc. But I never hear specifically how Limewire gives you viruses. I uses it and (I think) I'm fine. I only download songs and videos. No zips or .exe programs. Or is lImewire dangerous because of the P2P realations  thing?

Sorry if my questions are silly.:shrug:

Some of the songs will have viruses/spyware attached to them, activating them when you double-click it to play. Scan everything that you download from there, or better yet, remove it completely off of your computer. Limewire has ad-ware in itself. Try soulseek if you want individual songs..

there is a program called peer guardian that u need to get if u insist on using limewire. on the flip side, u need to get utorrent and work on getting a demonoid and an oink account. if u just want one song off of an album, utorrent will allow u to not select all the other songs on an album when u start the download. the nice thing about the torrents is u get quality rips, not some crap someone ripped with media player.

beg around for an oink.cd invite. the albums there are V0, 320 or flac. the d/l speeds are incredible too. u know it's a winner when none of the members want scene releases b/c they are too low quality.

it slows your computer down while using it. i never used peer guardian with it b/c i used it before it got corrupted and spammed, but i imagine that running both, which u have to do now, really kills your computer's speed. i stand by my previous statement. download utorrent, forward your ports and establish a static ip (portforward.com), and give someone head for an oink.cd invite.

here's some more options..

DC++ it's huge and I've never gotten a virus from this. p2p... If you want to know more about it then pm me, but you connect to hubs that are all over the world and these hubs usually have 1000s of people on them. Some hubs don't allow people below a certain share size... like you would need to share ~20GB of shit to goto a certain hub. there's more that are lenient but I've gotten pretty much anything that I've needed from there.

These torrent communities are nice, as they're a bit more sure on the quality you're getting, but this won't affect one's precious ratio
