flowhood blower strength

i'm going to be building a 24x36 flowhood. any one have a suggestion with what kind of horse power the blower should be? I know how to calculate cfm with static pressure and all that good stuff, but all of those numbers don't really mean much if you can't find a rating for the blower.

For a 24 x 36 inch HEPA filter. you will need a 1,092 CFM at .8" static pressure (60Hz). Draws 8.6 amps @115V

Then you should take a blower that comes with a chart and where you CAN match it to the desired filter.

This is useless information, as it will only be valid for one particular type of a 24 x 36 inch HEPA filter. A different built, with the same 24 x 36 dimensions but a different thickness and material will have a different static pressure.

well I was hoping I might be able to run a 1/3 or 1/2 hp blower bought used on ebay and tune the air pressure with a variable speed dial built into it. Would that work?

That would work, if the blower is powerful enough.
A 1/2 hp blower might be enough for your HEPA filter.
