Powerful Images of the beginning of Katrina (Update, July 11, 2007)

Be sure to read my last post in this thread concerning those who assumed or thought I copied them from someone else, especially to Mr. TheFakeSunRa and others.

These were sent to me by my sister from her friend.

Unbelievable storm

These pictures were taken by a man in Magee, MS where the eye of the storm passed thru - what an experience.

Magee is 150 miles North of Waveland, Mississippi where the Hurricane made land fall.

Worth passing on!!!

The dance with Katrina, part of her beauty as she left destruction on her exit. They are remarkably dramatic.

The following picture was taken from the third story balcony of Saint Stanislaus College located next door to Our Lady of the Gulf church in Bay Saint Louis, Mississippi on the morning of August 29th, 2005. This is believed to be the initial tidal wave from Hurricane Katrina. The tidal wave was approximately 35 to 40 feet high. When it slammed into the beach front communities of Bay Saint Louis and Waveland Mississippi to completely destroy 99% of every structure along the beach for 9 miles and over 2/3rds of a mile inland. The destruction only started there. The flooding that continued inland destroyed the contents of all but 35 homes in these two communities of approximately 14,000 people.

Will you look at that fucking size of the waves?

they are nice, but higher res. pics would be nice. Hopefully they just look kinda low quality because they were compressed/resized poorly and not because it was a bad camera.

Ignore the picture quality for a second and imagine you're standing right there taking a picture

I've seen those pictures before, and sure enough;

http://www.snopes.com/photos/natural/storm.asp

They are great pictures, but they are most definitely NOT hurrican Katrina shots.

The fact that it isn't America's favorite hurricane in the pics doesn't change anything for me. :ohwell:

Good job finding the truth on snopes! Very disappointing that a long time poster with some 13,000 posts would just copy and paste the generic message. Amazing pics indeed but I expect more from shroomery vets.

Exactly!

I don't understand why people actually spend time creating these little myths. Fairly harmless, I guess. Maybe they get a laugh out of duping people?

I dunno, I like the pictures for what they are.

I followed the links on snopes and found the guy who took the pictures web page.  He has an amazing job, I want to be a storm chaser.  :hissyfit:

I was gonna say the same thing. I used to be a huge weather buff and the instant I saw those pictures I was like "Bullshit! Those are mesocyclone(super cell) pictures." Sure, mesocyclones are hardcore, but on a more localized scale than a hurricane. They can produce grapefruit sized hail and F6(!) tornadoes.
