except for the scales/squamules on the stipe; based on the described bruising, indistinct volval features, coloration and brownish veil remnants, i'd place that Amanita tentatively near A. rubsecens [or whatever they call the north american version].

Almost certainly a shrimp Russula with that trout smell and mild taste. As long as it doesn't stain brown where bruised or taste acrid, its good to eat.

> the russulas kind of looked like plums laying in the grass.

The deep red color usually indicates a shrimp russula.

> my computer runs from a extension cord to the neighbors.

You could power your computer and some LED lights with solar / car batteries and be even more completely off the grid...

You can probably take good mushroom pictures by using the flash with the kerosene lamps, but covering about 75% of the flash so it doesn't become overexposed due to the small distance.

Sometimes blushing with amanita is not very pronounced... not that you should expect yours to stain necessarily. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you notice staining in the morning. Occasionally my flavorubescens display staining only after a cold night in the refrigerator however with rubescens if the blushing isn't clearly apparent in the field, it is usually displayed by the time you get home.
