You got me into Interpol (listening to them right now) and The National. I'm starting to fall for this hipster shit. What else do you (or anyone else that listens to this stuff) recommend?

And what do you think of Arcade Fire?

Right now I have Turn On the Bright Lights. Pretty good.
I'm really liking Spoon too, but I discovered them on my own (although he recommended them like a day after I downloaded the album.)

The newer Interpol album is called Antics, and the newest one will come out in early July it's called Our Love to Admire.

Built to Spill, the two albums you should download are Perfect From Now On and Keep it Like A Secret.

For Pavement it's hard to tell where to start a beginner..

antics was the first interpol album i listened to so it's the one that i tend to listen to most.

spoon is excellent. gimme fiction always reminds me of low dose mushroom tripping because that was my background music on several such excursions.

and pavement is like my favorite band ever. jew, you must take heed of OMR and listen to pavement. i cannot decide what my favorite album is, but it's one of these three - brighten the corners, crooked rain crooked rain, and slanted & enchanted.

Yeah even though Slanted and Enchanted (Especially the 2-disc rerelease) might be the best Pavement album evar (so hard to choose though...even Terror Twilight holds such a special place in my heart...major leagues kills me) it's definitely kind of abrasive at first listen.

when you say abrasive, you mean the noise pop aspect with the grungy distortion and whatnot, right? it does take a little getting used to, but you grow to love it, as i'm sure you well know.

have you heard of archers of loaf? they're from the same era, early to mid 90s and they work in that "noise pop" realm. unrefined instrumentals, use of distortion and whatnot. Icky Mettle is such a great album.

oh yes. i've listened to icky thump and it is very tasty.

I need the new Okkervil River. I always say if someone asked me to play them American Music, I'd play them Okkervil River. They're coming through here in September. The lead singer is so intense live. I think he was born halfway to down's syndrome.
